I made one of those. Not efficient.
Probably because of the suitable speaker which i didn't have.
Whole trick at those and similar schematics is in speaker.
It must be designed for frequencies above 22kHz... up to 40-60kHz.
Here is one very interesting old schematic. So called "pain field generator".
Designed for different purpose, but can be adapted and modernized for this purpose.
I made the pcb, put most of the components. But than i gave up, couldn't obtain proper speaker.
Also not sure if i made proper transformer.

And here is the one "original" device from market.
I bought several different "commercial" devices, NONE efficient at all.
Than i did reverse ee on this one. Because it is the very standard and basic approach.
Almost ALL other commercial repellents are based on the same principle.
They just redesign different enclosures for the same electronics inside.
Than advertise them under different brands and names.

Only natural remedy against those pests are bats and spiders. (Don't kill and remove spiders, those are our best friends! Same as bats!)
And most recently i heard about really genial plan.
I am not exactly sure which country was that; but they are producing "infected" males and than release them in to nature.
To mate with "normal" females. So, females are than also infected and can not reproduce further.
I can't recall the details. But idea is so good, genial!
Unfortunately not done in my country yet...

I don't want to be negative... but still it is chemistry, you inhale it all the time while using it.
              And it is nothing new.
I remember similar repellent from the times i was a child.
There was a device you plug into wall socket with similar cartridge.
Instead a fuel; electricity heats up the cartridge and spread a "fume" repellent.
Probably effective for several minutes as they claim on that page.
I have found some interesting explanations here:

That SmartBam machine is interesting. I happen to have experience of ultrasonic fogger electronics. It's likely that this machine uses such tech to evaporate a water-based scent containing animal sweat concentrate. A small fan would help disperse the odour into the area. The CO2 is simply generated from a gas bottle with a control valve.
And once attracted, they can be dealt with mechanically, such as the air vaccuum in this Bam device, maybe a high-voltage zapper could be useful too.

Covered your whole body with cloth to be naturally protected. LOL.
Products advertise that they are all organic but is that really true????

hi evreryone, this is my first post. What an interesting idea! (i came here becasue i want to build a DIY detector). Have you guys seen the laser tracker/gun that shoots the mosies down? i'm not sure it was perfect in anyway and i can remmeber it being somewhat indiscriminiate (so not good in my opinion - we have ways to destory everything insight as it is) but it was an interesting thing. (EDITED (a bit) because... terrible spelling). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKm8FolQ7jw

Smaller than 1mm but not much respect for other living beings!

This pic is an absolute rarity and it was pure luck to shoot it.
                            I have many ultra-rare spider-pictures because I like spiders
and I even let live them inside my home! Horror for all women! *laugh*
They are real surviving-specialists! And I must not feed them! Hahaha.

At least can we gather and join all our forces on one thing; to project and design really functional and effective ......
                              Can we do it?
For a second, I thought "At last! Someone is making a call to design a brilliant PI detector from all the know how of the group", only to see the real goal - a mosquito repellent device! Just buy some spray from your chemist/drug store, or have a female tag along when detecting. They always go for the women's pheromones!

Now how about a more worthy pursuit?

Perhaps we can list our functional requirements and performance goals for a start!
