  • New here, trying to determine the proper name for my unit (Whites Surf Dual Field, 2010?)

TL;DR: Took my detector out of storage and wanting to search around for potential schematics/guides. Coming across conflicting info on the official model name for this unit. Is this refered to simply as a "Surf Dual Field" like the interior sticker says?

I cant post attachments on here yet so I uploaded 2 pics on imgur of the interior sticker and an exterior pic if helpful: https://imgur.com/a/2mDOctu

    Full post:

    Hey fellas,

I bought this unit 5-7 years ago used, used it a bit and then put it back in the box. Interested in trying it out again but wanted to do some diagnostics on it to see if its still in good shape.

I've used google searches & forum searches but constantly see conflicting info (surfmaster, surfmaster pi dual field, surf dual field etc). Under the cover it says "Surf Dual Field" on the sticker but i've came across a couple different names this unit appears to be refered to as. Hoping someone may be able to help me nail down what this one is usually called.

    Thanks for your time,

    Guy R.

The proper name is "Surfmaster PI." Often called the "Surf PI." I usually call it the SMPI.
This particular one has a Dual Field coil, so it the box label may say "Surf PI Dual Field."
The SMPI has been in production around 30 years and has undergone several minor name tweaks.

Thanks Carl, should be all set to search the forums now. If I end up finding any issues or do any work, I'll be sure to throw up a project thread just to document things.
