  • Mirage Ultra MDDSD AND Crivit hiking stick shaft

Hi all,,,,Just wanted to share an idea I had for a detector shaft for my newly finished Mirage Ultra MDDSD VER 1.1 Project that was recently offered to Geotech members by Elliot (Australia). Highly recommend the Mirage for anyone hunting Gold as this little detector is really sensitive to it and it detects it pretty deep too. Big thank you to Elliot for all the help he gave me during my build,,Just like Sven (Canada) on my first Mirage builds he was always happy and willing to help,,,two great blokes,,one great project,,,love this detector to bits!!,,,,,Thanks, regards,,,Marty

Brilliant and beautiful. Thanks for posting! Will try - thought sticks would be too skinny - always on the lookout for stuff to re-designate for MDing.

Thanks Polymer,,,,,The shaft that holds the Handle is the thickest and is about 16mm diameter,,I didnt measure the centre shaft but the end shaft is 12mm diameter,,,really strong Aluminium and the Camlocks are brilliant too,,there is no wobble in the shafts when you are 'swinging' the coil,,,the Hikings sticks were sold in pairs and cost me ?15 (UK). Real bargain I thought and it only took about 3 hours to make the other parts and put together,,,Glad you liked it,,,Thanks,,,Regards,,,Marty

I have just finished the board for my latest Mirage and am in the process of calibrating it.

This is my third mirage, having previously made two of Sven's which are both working well.
A couple of mates wanted to build detectors so I bought 3 boards from Elliot and we get together once a week to assemble them. I previously assisted them in building Pickinis which were great introductory projects.

PS for testing purposes shorting together pins 2 & 3 of the headphone socket enables a speaker to be used in the speaker socket.

Thanks for the nice comments guys,,and I know I've said it before Sven but I love this detector so thanks again for everything. @Goaty,,,I built 2 of Svens Mirages,,both work extremely well and are my 'Go to' detectors, I prefer them over my Teknetics T2 and I've found they're better for gold than the T2 too,,,I wired the speaker to the headphone socket also on my first Mirages (Svens), but on Elliots version I wired them according to the build guide,,,I also like Elliots version but I think they're are too many switches on it for me,,though I do like the extra 'Volume' knob. I'm yet to take them out together to compare them but hopefully, when I've got a decent camera, Ill make some video footage to post etc,,,I've got some more Crivit sticks on order for my first 2 mirages now and I made some dedicated waterproof bags from Grade 1 Military woodlands cloth for the field,,each bag holds 2 x Detectors/accessories/spare batteries/headphones and dig tools etc,,(I do a lot of sewing!,,I love it-Don't laugh!,,Lol),,I'll post some pics of the bags etc at a later date then if anyone wants to make one I can post the templates etc,,Thanks again guys,,Regards,,,Marty

                  Hi Marty,

Those hiking sticks are a great idea, I've been wanting to make a telescopic detector pole and those would probably work.

Can you take pictures of the detector/pole fully assembled and extended? And another picture of the whole setup shrunk down and ready for travel?

I just want to see how it all comes together, thanks!

                      Hi Marty,
Cant see any ground balance on the Mirage just curious to know if this is a bi-polar design..?
