Completely different animals. Hammerhead was never really intended to be a competitive field hunter, though some have used it for that.

I forget, but there is also the Tesoro Diablo Gold Demon, and the Diablo 11. Search on forum.
People have made it with success.

You will find PCB artwork and full schematic of original, so a clone can be made without too much effort.
The operating frequency is higher, which is supposedly good for searching gold.

The SD2000 is a pulse machine. Also very excellent if you can make it. This is advanced build, difficult project for beginners.

Also there is the Mirage PI. Excellent pulse machine. It is in the same family tree as the Hammerhead.

It is correct.
Diablo is genuine gold detector (mean: no discrimination, ask for repeated re-tuning),
but depth on gold nuggets is competitive to modern prospecting apparatus.
