  • Discriminator probe pointer

I have been using my C-Scope 770 on a area covered in rusty metal fragments nails etc but amongst the junk there are non ferris items which the C-Scope discriminates. I was wondering if there was a probe pointer that can discriminate rather than bleeping mad at anything, as most probe pointers are i believe PI. Anyone know of such a pointer or a kit that can or small discriminator detector that can be modified to a probe size.

Some are PI, some are "energy theft" (akin to BFO), and some are IB. For discrimination you need IB. IB pinpointers I know of are White's TRX, the newer Minelabs, and XP. I know the TRX does not discriminate, I think the Minelabs have a ferrous tone ID, the XP I've never used so can't say.

I understand Teemo's detector circuit offers some basic discrimination:

        and:
        https://www.geotech1.com/forums/show...tector-project

I've not built it myself, so can't say if it will meet your requirements.

Yes, Teemo's detector does discriminate ferrous verse non-ferrous and this circuit works well as a pin pointer.
I posted, #106, in his thread my pin pointer build.

I have had a look at this seems to work well in the video clip. Could this work with a ferrite rod to build as a conventional probe pointer.

The Teemo discriminator look good as well but it seems that lots of mods have been made on the original design.

I went and ordered a probe pointer with discriminator from New Hobby with 9mm ferrite coil rather than the 6cm round coil. Looks good in the video hope its not oo difficult a kit to get working. Have to build a body for the electronics.

This is the pointer you bought ? -

Yes thats the one with the 9mm ferrite coil. Anyone bought one.

Bought the pointer on the 23 May delivered today to the UK from Bulgaria all safe and sound. Thought it was kit i had to build but built already which is great. Great bit of kit, works great, now to put a casing around it to. I was wondering if the casing of an old garrett type pinpointer, may be a Chinese cheap knock off would be suitable, anyone know the internal sizes. The board diameter of the new hobby pin pointer is 27mm wide and 64mm long plus the battery to fit behind.

i just bought one last night for myself. hopefully i can fit it in one of these crap pinpionters that i have. or like you say. one of them cheap Chinese GP pointers.

Is it the same design as the Teemo pinpointer?

On the PCB put a dob of hot glue on the battery wires to take the strain

The Minelab Pro-pointer 35 has iron discrimination.
