I just got the muffs retail. A lot of safety places sell them from 16 to $30. I had no luck getting them as an OEM.
Just tested a moment ago. They are loud and smooth. 20Hz to 20Khz. Also, if the cord goes bad, pop in another coiled guitar cord from Radio Shack! Nice. (Stereo to mono adapter required, another $3).

Any headphones that survive the Bandido Battery Test, are indeed rugged. I wish I could say the same for my ears.
