  • DIY kit recommendation for coins/jewelry

Hi - I'm a noob so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I just finished making a surf pi kit. It was a lot of fun to make, but...it finds everything - too much. I'd like to be able to find coins and/or jewelry inland, away from beaches - is there a kit that isn't ridiculously difficult that fits the bill a little better? Thanks in advance and sorry if this is a dumb question...my specialty!

Look up the TGSL and IDX her on the Geotech forum.
Both are VLF detectors that discriminate.

Silverdog has PCBs but no kit.

I built both the idx and bandido (which is similar to the tgsl)

here in the UK the bandido was clearly better in all the iron

idx is really good in very quiet fields

I ran both for a few years and gave both a far trial. Both work and do what they say on the tin. Detect, discriminate and pinpoint.

Thanks very much. Can I ask - are these reasonable to make in your opinion for someone who's not an engineer of some type? Do you need an oscilloscope? I guess I knew enough to get the surf pi together and working although I have to say it took more than one try! And I have a feeling that the surf pi is quite simple compared to some of these others...

Yes, an O'scope really is needed.
Both have been built by many on this forum so lots of info and tips. Search and read to see what issues we have had and if you wish to also work through them.

Building the Surf pi is a help for the next step and is simpler.

If I bought one of those half-azz semi oscilloscopes that cost like $50-75, does it have enough functionality or do I need a 'real' oscilloscope?
