  • TARSACCI METAL DETECTOR

a friend of mine told me about a new metal detector that claims to be pulse/vlf...i wonder if this is really a discriminating pulse or maybe based on a fisher quick silver...as i remember my friend once telling me that the CZ 6 had a square wave harmonic coil drive.

It's nothing to do with White's patent:

It's been around for over 2 years now, Dave.
        Some previous chat on here:

DetectorProspector and DankowskiDetectors are the two main forums where you'll find more info on it.

when my friend told me about this detector being a hybrid pulse and the price tag and then i saw a video on youtube and one of the comments was saying in so many words that it was pulse with discrimination but for me it reminds me of a Fisher CZ 6 with an lcd display so correct me if im wrong on my assumption of this detector.

Dave - see post #3. The link contains a reply from Carl about this detector.

thanks ive read Carls comments...i never knew this detector existed until a friend told me about it...from what carl said the coil drive is nothing new as its already been used in different multi frequency machines...im just interested how it performs depth wise against a pulse detector ???

I should've put proper hyperlinks in my last post, to save you searching:

Hi Skippy....i had a look on the sites you mentioned and from what i see the Tarsacci is not as deep as a good pulse machine but maybe the testers are minelab biased...a friend of mine some years ago designed a pulse machine which could ID different metals at full depth but the electronics had to be very precise and he never carried on the project...but i think a pulse detector that could ID with a display would be the ultimate detector.

The good old square wave and it's harmonic siblings, lots can be done with that I see.
You know guys, it's not so difficult to explain how the circuit works with it's coil compensation and notch filtering etc, etc. But I think somebody needs to explain is this merely a more elaborate and adorning way of accomplishing the same task, or are there real benefits and advantages to be had out in the field as opposed to a premium single frequency sinus vlf detector. I mean, do I have to do a zillion calculations to see a superior design emerge or should it seem obvious just based on method.( Block diagram)

A single frequency detector can only resolve the target phase due to a single tau. It cannot distinguish multi-domain or complex-response targets like salt+magnetite or viscous material. Tarsacci is a wideband system with true time-domain processing so it is more comparable to a multifrequency design. But multifrequency typically offers 2 or 3 points of resolution whereas Tarsacci could do more, though I don't know if it does. So I would say Yes, there are real advantages to this approach.

They are far away to a right way. The cheapest vlf do well. They have to contact the hard working treasure hunters.
