I use a hand held Garrett tactical detector which is a body search device PI which is quite useful for having a look see when i go out walking rather than carry a full detector kit. Found lots of things which picks up quite well about 2-3 inches under the surface. I also use it as a pin pointer when i normally go out with a proper detector, but not as good as a normal pinpointer. I have also made a long handle for it which makes it very compact and better than bending down for sweeping better. I was wondering if this detector can be improved upon for a bit of extra depth, i have found that this works much better with fresh batteries, what do you think.

This is the THD ? I'm pretty sure it is a VLF energy-absorption design, basically similar to the later Propointer, which adds micro-controller 'brains' for self-calibration, and probably higher sensitivity.
The THD schematic is on this forum somewhere. If it's like the propointer, the main problem may be drift, so making it more sensitive will cause trouble in real-world use.

to Skip answer. you sure can add sens. difference b/w two pp's is a coil, less coil in THD gives less depth.
i hope it is clear for your understanding. increase ferrite rod in length and you get what you want.
or, do a small round coil without the ferrite.

We're wasting our time, KT . This is just another repeat ...
