  • Ferrite for pinpointer coil questions

I have a 100x10 ferritte recovered from a radio, on the sides it is colored red on one side and yellow on the other. Could you tell me what it means?
Can the size of the ferrite be suitable for the construction of a pinpointer?

    Thanks!

any size. but than more you take than you get more sens/depth. it must clear for you.
i did videos of DP with micro size ferrite coil - erase heads from video recorder and cassete taper.
but youtube deleted my first channel. must repeat.

I used a ferrite rod from an AM radio to make a pin pointer. See post here:

Typically colors on ferrite are done to ID the ferrite type. However, you need to know the manufacturer and find their data sheets to know.

It is not clear to me if the coil should be wound clockwise or counterclockwise. On the ferrite of an old radio I own, one coil is wound clockwise while the other is counterclockwise.

If you are removing the old AM antenna winding then wind a single coil direction does not matter for a pin pointer.

Some ferrite types work well, others are lousy. You'll have to try it. Winding direction makes no difference.

The old radio was an quad band FM-AM (fm,sw, mw, lw)

I have yet to decide on some scheme to use for the pinpointer, so I don't know yet if single coil or dual
