    questions about ELDO..

    I was reading the manual and read about the frequencies used. The specs say 10.6KHz, 10.4KHz, and 10.2KHz. I placed a freq counter on it, and it measured 10.0KHz, 9.6KHz, and 9.8KHz. Would this be a "bad" thing?

    I also noticed three, (3) "test" loops that are actually test points, and measuring from right to left, about 4.77V, but measuring the outer 2, get nothing.

    There is also a trim pot on the PCB, anyone know what that is used for adjusting? I am affraid to move it till I know how to put it back.

    I got the measured frequencies from the trim pot in question, but was afraid to move it.

    I am intrested in extending the GB also. I was reading a post where there was an additional resistor placed, and a CAP. there was supposed to be a pic of the schem, but it wasn't there. I also emailed the poster, but have not heard from him yet.

    Variations in the nominal TX frequency are normal, nothing to be concerned about. Don't know about the test loops, I don't have an Eldo. Trim pot... probably tweaks in the phase on the RX samplers, especially if you measured the frequency there.

    The GB info is probably in the archives of this forum. Try searching on "salt mode".

      Thanks Carl for replying.

      I was looking at the archives on about 3 differend MOD type forums, and the one I'm talking about, well, he had a schematic in his post, but I guess the pic has disappered, cause it's no longer there.

      the info I was reading led to "semi-failure" I think. Something about only being able to shift the phase so much, and I think it needted to be more. I'm not sure anymore.

      I would still like to know what that trim-pot really does, cause I have moved it now. Tried to put it back where it was, but since I didn't have a reference point, I guess I messed up. It did not change the frequency, and it did not change the voltage either. What could it have changed.

      I wish I had a dual sweep o-scope right about now.

        TOP TIP!

        Use an OHP fineline marker pen and mark ALL pots BEFORE you move them in future.

        If you're going to screw up, at least do it with style. ;-)

          Good point.

          I think I figured it out. Since I couldn't see obvious changes with a meter, I found the change in the DISC settings.

          Nickels were to be missed, when disc setting set just past nickel. Now nickels are discrimmed (

              Based on what I just read, thanks to you, I think they got it.

              2 questions though. 1) They did this on a Bandito. And it seems that they may have found some components to be "backwards", did they veryfy with at least another user of the same machine if all caps in question were in the same position? I don't know if you can answer that. sorry.

              2) I'm using hte Eldorado. Should I really try this? Maybe something got corrected from the Bandito to the Eldorado. What I need to know is, where are the test points for an o-scope to check the phase shift? I guess I gotta fiddle around for a while. I might try it anyway.

              Hey a third question. Are you better now? has your swollen hands gone down since then?

                Don't know what the final outcome of the salt mode experiment was. The Eldorado replaced the Bandido in Tesoro's line-up, and I expect that the analog portion, including the GB & disc phase shifting, is the same, but don't know for sure. I think the Eldorado was also part of a new line of microcontroller detectors, although from what I saw with the Golden uMax, the uC is only used for final audio processing.

                You should be able to look at the output of the GB phase shifter, to look at phase. Just trace where the GB control goes.

                My hands are fine... it was the worst poison ivy I think I've ever gotten!
