Newbie and a question

Hi to the forum,

I landed here after visiting DiyDetector page and TGSL project described somewhere on the web.
I'd like to build a simple one, my goal is simply to track an 1/2 inch iron water pipe buried half meter down in the soil in my garden.
What would you guys suggest? Im quite skilled in electronics, programming and soldering, even smd...,
so mounting something simple shouldn't be a problem. (Arduino-based projetcs preferred as I got a few Nano boards available)
