I am building a stick detector using a Teemo design discriminator pin pointer based model which works very well using a 60mm coil, I want slim down the design to make it compact as possible. The hollow shaft is from an umbrella made of carbon fibre, at one end i was going to have the search coil which folded back on its self when used as a walking stick. The two wires from the coil back to the other end hidden in the shaft to the board battery and controls. I have decided now to put the coil and board together which folds back to handle when not in use and have the battery, on off switch and reset button at the other end which is the handle. The hollow shaft would be ideal to put and conceal the battery but the board is run on a standard 9 volt square type battery making it difficult to conceal. I was wondering if i could use a 9 volt 10a L1022 battery that is much smaller at 22mm long and 10mm in diameter as it would fit into the shaft perfectly where i could use a micro on off switch or use or make a end cap turn switch. Would using this smaller 9volt battery work fine than the bulky 9 volt standard.

Use two lithium rechargeable cells in series to make a '9 Volt' battery. You then have a number of choices of cylindrical cells.
Did you read my 'trash tech' thread on salvaging cells from e-cigarettes, like disposable types? I have a cylindrical cell from a 'Dinner Lady' vape, that's a 09500 size ( 9mm diameter x 50mm long ) with a decent capacity of 320 mAh. A pair of them would be ideal for your Teemo project.
Many common disposables use 13mm diameter cells, like 13450 size, typically 500 mAh, maybe that's too big ..

So ... if you can fit a fat CR123 cell ( 16mm diameter ) inside this carbon tube, then you have loads of choices of cylindrical cells. Obvious ones are AA ( 14500 ) or the numerous cylindrical vape devices, many of which use 13350 / 13400 / 13450 size cells. I assume cell length is not an issue. 14500 Li cells are typically 800 mAh capacity, the vape ones are 400 - 600 mAh.

16mm would be around the size i would go for as i am trying to slim the workings down to be compact. It would also be nice to have batteries that are not too long, the CR2 about half the length of a CR123 would be great. I will have a look at these other cell sizes, i assume they are 3v. Would this Temo design draw a lot.
