  • VLF Detector Circuits

hey, im doing my GCSE coursework project in school at the moment, and i am trying to make a VLF metal detector, i have done some research but cant find any circuits to help me! I im looking for the circuit for the reciever coil mainly, and how to turn the magnetic pulse into electricity etc. so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated! thanks.

    Hi Matthew,
I have recently completed a IB metal detector.
Its sensitivity is such that it can detect an
American dime at approx. 6 inches. It features
a single sensitivity control which adjusts the
    detector amplifier.
If you wish a copy of the receiver send me e-mail to that regard and I will send you a pdf copy with the instructions on how to set it up.

    Regards

      Art,
Which IB project did you realize?
Actually, I am hunting with IB's and I am the opponion that they work better on heavily mineralized soil than the VLF's.
I am playing with the idea to try a mod, but I fear to fry my best working circuits.
So best for me would be realizing an IB project.
Thanks in advance and best regards,
      Paul

Re: VLF or IB is the same !

VLF or IB or TR , is the same concept.

          Re: VLF Detector Circuits

          Go here, try this!

I know you will have to get your teacher to help you with the circuit layout onto a PCB, but if he's half decent then he should be able to do this.

Alternatively, just build the Silver Sabre. There are plenty of diagrams on here and it's a real GEM of a machine. Get the coil right (try looking at Dave Emery's article) USE AN AMPLIFIER on the Rx when balancing the coils (100 gain should do it) and make sure you get the best balance possible. ALso check you get the phase shift as close to zero.

I suggest you do this on a PLASTIC garden table outside on a sunny day with NO metal in the immediate vicinity (6 feet) so you will have to use long leads for the oscilloscope and get help to watch the results on the screen.

          Good luck.

I agree on this, there is no doubt.
But I am the opinion that they show a better performance than the VLF on heavily mineralized soils. That's why I focus on IB's.
            Just a personal view.
