looking at the back of the GTI there are 2 pots under plastic caps. Supposedly the GTI's have ground tracking, so it's probably not GB. Wondering if they adjust the disc. level sensitivity or ??? I don't want to blindly play around & possibly compromise the performance. So, can anyone help me? ...Willy.

They adjust the X and Y for the recieved signal for the target ID.
They are set for a certain ratio, or gain so that the ATAN of the incoming signal can be calculated, and hence the phase and and ID of the target.
Best NOT to touch them unless you make 100% sure you can set them back to the same place after.
I unsoldered them measured the value (I believe they are 10 turn), then played around. Screwed up the ground balance AND the target ID enough to stop the machine working at all.
Unslodered them again, set them to the right values then re-soldered them.
If you want to bias your detector to inicate silver more than any other type of metal, then you can adjust them both "down", by doing this you can either expand (adjust up) or compact the TID range of the machine, though you will also screw up the ground balance a little in the process.
