A cellphone makes use of satellite tracking---so does a G.P.S
Question: Would it be possible to make use of a cellphone to build a GPS--something like an adaptor with GPS--softwear??

I don't believe so since a cell phone uses land based towers to relay calls. When law enforcement wants to find someone with a cell phone they have to use triangulation to locate it and even then its not within feet like a gps unit does. GPS relies on satellites and not land based cells/sites. Hope that helps.

I used to work for Nokia in the R & D department and Qualcomm too. Both these companies have this feature in the next generation of phones, but it is NOT accessible to the user. It's ONLY used to track the exact location of the user so the authorities can track criminals, or those who are stuck in the middle of nowhere and need assistance.

For my mind, it's just anothr way of big brother knowing where we all are. Why not just RFID tag us at birth and have done with it. (See the movie GATTICA).

Local prices are that high or your exchange rate to dollars is that high? Reason I ask is because you can find many online sources for cheap (by US standards) GPS units for around $100 US.
