    i picked up an old whites 6000d...it turns on and goes to threshold but will not sound off when you pass the coil over metal....i have tried a different coil and that didnt fix it...any ideas?

    If it didn't work in any of the modes, and the battery check indicates the batteries are OK, then watch the meter to see if it deflects. If it does, then the audio is dead. If not, then very likely the receive circuitry is out-of-whack.

      Oops, you said the threshold works, so the audio should be fine. I would therefore suspect the RX circuitry.

        If my memore serves me correctly, there are TWO PCB's inside that machine.

        Using static precautions, strip out both the PCB's and clean the contacts between them, also check for dry joints with a magnifying glass. Finally, check out the round toroidal inductor in the corner of the PCB (I think there is one there) check for broken wires (usually happens if the detector is dropped).

        Apart from the above, I have a scematic of this machine somewhere, I can let you have a copy if you email m with your adddress etc.

          The series 1 has one PCB. The series 3 has 2 stacked PCBs. Not sure about the series 2.
