  • Fisher CZ6a schematics, coil info, etc.

    Hi All:

I just bought an old CZ 6a and was thinking about playing around with other coils for it. Searched the archives, but still had a few questions.

The most concerning was the post by Reg (I think it was Reg) who said you will "crispy critter" your detector by connecting the ground side of the coils directly, without going through capacitors. Since I don't want to smoke my detector, does anyone know anything more about this... like what size &type caps? A wiring diagram or schematic of the coil end would help greatly (I'm still trying to figure out the five pins on my coil... I guess one of them is for the sheild?)

Anyway, if anyone else has played around with different coils on the CZ6, I'd love to know what you found out. Carl, your experiments with Tesoro coils were neat... I guess none of those coils had caps in them, and no smoke?

Thanks for your help- Best, BG

Re: Fisher CZ6a schematics, coil info, etc.

CZ had two virtual grounds. First for Tx (make with electrolyte capacitors), and second for Rx (make with electronic stab.). As I member, coil have only two coaxial cables (4 wires).
But, real ground for CZ is -5v, and box shield foil and coil jack are connected on -5V.
So, you can invent another wire and connect coil ES shield on -5V.
In original coil, graphite ES shield is connected on Rx ground.
You can not smoke detector, because he has protection on Tx (little light).
Coil for CZ is without capacitors.
    Good luck!
    Jackdetect.

p.s. Take care to not confuse Tx and Rx ground, because then, CZ will consume lot of power, but will work somehow. If that happened, you will see the light.
