  • TDA0161 Proximity Detector IC

I just purchased some of these chips in surface mount to Experiment with.

I Am Impressed. Although I have not tested Ground Effects yet and they may NOT useful out in the field.
However They Do Detect Gold, High Quality Stainless Steel and All other metal I have tried so far, Very Close to EQUIL in Detection Distance.

With the Right Coil and appropriate Caps, My Proto will detect a Straight Pin and a 1/8 Gram Gold Nugget at about 1/4 inch. Maybe Better if I get the best combination.

The Output is a "on" or "off" LED.
Unfortunately, Their is Provisions for a Meter with Varying Strength. But Maybe I can figure out something for that also.

Just though I would bring this chip to your attention.

There appears to be Very little info on the Internet about it, and the Data sheet is Somewhat Crap. Quite hard to figure out.

For those interested, A link to My Circuit is below. More Info and a Circuit board will be coming later.

    Enjoy, Take care......Gary

I put it there as a tif file. I find I can open it, if I download it and than ask it to open.

But I will change its format today to something better. Try again in a few hours.
