  • help with micronta 4300 settings

I have borrowed a micronta 4300 to help me find survey stakes on my property.

Can someone tell me ballpark settings for ground, discriminator, tune, mode,
sensitivity, volume, and test switch adjustments and settings. I'm very new to this and I'll be searching for 18" to 24" metal pipes that are under a few inches of soil.

    Thanks,
    GeorgeN

    Tuning Procedure for 4003.

George, I haven't owned on of those BEASTS, but the VLF Disc. all tune pretty much the same.

    1. Set Mode switch to VLF.
    2. Set Disc. swith to Min. or all the way CCW Left.
    3. Place Sens. to Mid way or Straight to Meter ( 12:00 noon)
    4. Hold Search coil at apx. 45 deg angle above the control box that
    is resting on your waist.
    5. Turn on the machine and adjust the Volume control so you can JUST HEAR
    a tone.
    6. Rotate the Search Coil Toward the Ground and Listen for an
Increase or Decrease in Tone as the Search Coil gets with in a couple of
    Inches of the Ground.
7a. If the Tone Increases in volume then Pretend that the Ground Knob
is a Volume control on Your Radio and turn it Down "CCW" 1 or 2 turns.
7b. Repeat Step 6. If tone Increases again Turn Ground knob Down/CCW.
If tone Decreases Rotate Up/CW Half of what you turned it down last
    time.
    8. Keep repeating Step 6-7b till there is very Little or No change in Tone
while moving the coil down to or away from the Ground.
    9. CongragulationsYour have just GROUND BALANCED your Machine.
If there is a AUTO TUNE switch on there set it to Auto so you won't have keep ground balancing all the time the machine will do it for you.
    10. Get a Couple of 1" heavy Steel Washers and Play with the machine till you know what the sound is like down close (1"-2") and what it sounds like farther and farther away till you can't hear any response anymore. At this time you should still see the Neddle on the Meter Move while you pass the coil over the washers on the ground at a distance of say 8" - 10". The depth that you will be able to detect the Iron Pipe/Rebar won't be any deeper than you will be able to detect the washers. The Pipe/Rebar is not laying down on the ground, but driven into it so the coil field will only SEE it from the END not the side.
Hope this help you George, and Good Luck. I know what its like to try to find pipe and such. I had to locate 1+miles of 1917 gravety feed water line for the GhostTown I live in. It was my only source of water as the 6" well had caved at 33ft and the water table was at 30ft. But that another story all its own!

          Glad I could help George!

I can remember how frusterating it was all those years trying to find somebody to help me learn to use the old Garretes Master Hunter Deep Seeker MD I bought in the Late 70's early 80's. I finally gave up and sold it in Nevada City in '82 so I could get gas to go back home to Dallesport, WA. I didn't get another MD till I got to spokane in 95 When Lucy and Harry Bowen Took the Time to show me how to set the thing up and use it. We must have spent an Hour in their front yard digging Planted coins and trash till I felt confident with setting it up. I joined the NWTH's club and got to compeate in the Most coins for the month and Best find of the month contests, and it got so I was comming in 2=3=4 most of the time with my 4000+ coins a month and I even won the contest ONCE, I think it was because the OTHERS were Sick or something.
Well you have a Good Day.
          Sincerely
