Don't remember in wich book I read, but the schematic is approximative the above. Think was the first "two box"-magnetometer combination for big mass (only for ships) at 25 m depth. Can detect big anchors but at less depth.
In old drawing the inventor appears in a boat. Each coil had 3 meter diameter and was round. The year don't remember (between 1880-1890). You can find the exact info in old publications. Also don't know very well if the name of the inventor, was Pierre Gaumont or Pierre Dupont... The sound of the bell indicates the detection!!!
