  • Question for all electronic wizards?

I was wondering if a person could build a two box detector with a detecting area of 3 - 4 feet and mount it on a ATV for covering large areas to hunt meteorites. I live in kansas, with alot of open fields. I was just thinking if you could cover alot of ground and locate meteorites, then you could pin point with a normal detector. This is just a thought, and I would like everyone input. I can build the mount. I just need help on the theory?
    Thanks Greg

An old issue of Treasure (or Treasure Search) magazine showed a truck (Ford Bronco?) with a large PI coil mounted on the front. As I recall, the detector & coil came from Eric Foster.

Carl, Sorry about this dumb question, could a person take a mid range detector, and make a large coil to be mounted on the back of a atv, I have no knowledge of the electronic aspect of this. Thanks for your help. Greg

You could, but you might have a problem keeping the coils inductively balanced over rough terrain. It will result in a lot of falsing.

Thanks a bunch for your help, as I stated my knowledge of electronics is near none, and my knowledge of metal detecting is little. Thanks greg
