I am trying to build a metal detector from a kit i found. but i try to change it a little bit because i thing that the way it is, is not able to go as deep as 5 inches. So it's a vlf cmos for the xmiter and for the head circuit uses 4 transistors, 2xbc550 and 2xbc560 as an ampifier before the xcoil. I thought that if i had changed the transistor circuit with 4 other transistors, like 2n2219 and 2n2905 and more power for them would i had more power to the xcoil?? so i would have the ability to search deeper than 5 inches or it's a waste of time...Do you have a clue what can i do to make my metal detector to go deeper?? If i pass this step let say, then i'll see what to do with the discrimination of some metal rabish.

It is unlikely that changing transistors will make it detect deeper.

Why don't you Post the Schemaic, so we can see the circuit?

First you must construct it and if the depth is low we can see what to do. If you have not bought the kit still then you can build the BandidoII that is a very good detector. General is better to increase the receiver gain than the xmit power.

              Hello

The schematic is the VLF Elektor published in 1981, there are versions in various languages, but the corrections only I have in French, very easy to understand. Read.
