Paul come on now, you seem to be trying your best to insult and argue with as many people on this forum as you can. Don't you find that just a little bit odd?
Notice that is yet another claim. All of this started between Reg and I. I do not start attacks or insults.

Charles, Keep us posted on your progress of the Pulse Devil !!!!! Also I have seen the Great Work you have done in the past. You Show and prove your accomplishments , not like some who just blow out hot air . And I have also seen your awesome search coils you have made. Let us know the price, if its for sale, or pcb board, parts, coil data if its a kit. thanks again for your contributions to this forum. [email protected] Eugene
I've seen this happen on other sites and, often enough, it leads to people leaving the site for greener pastures. What Paul is being, to coin a popular term, is a "troll". It doesn't matter what is said to discourage such people, they'll keep it up with the insults & such (an immature way of garnering attention but thems the breaks), till they get banned or the admin revokes guest posting. It's a shame to do so, but that's generally what happens. The best bet is to not respond to a trolls posts, but there's always someone that can't resist. That's about all I care to say; don't want to waste any more of my time on anything to do with "Paul". ...Willy.

Yet another claim without a shred of evidence. I did not start it. Could it be possible that you are viewing this from a distance and have no studied all my posts? I will tell you that I have, since I'm the one who posted them. In every case, in every negative posts, I was responding to a personal negative post toward me.

My Tx coil pulses up, then down, and then I take my samples.

After that back to "All metal mode".
Got to dig deep to get your iron.
Perhaps we should all spend more time inventing a better digging method. I hear it's illegal to use power-digging tools in places such as BLM. I wonder if that's true?
After carefull reading , I found out its Dave Emery thats designing the Pulse Devil . I thought it was someone else , my mistake . It will be interesting to see the specs and price when it comes out. [email protected] Eugene
Most do what you are saying. Eric showed along time ago on his forum about sampling after the turn on as well. This information can provide some "real" discrimination. Now is it fool proof, probably not, is it hard to do, Yes.
So I'm going to stick up for Dave Emery here and I don't even know the Guy. He is probably not going to get rich and Eric has explained this before so Dave should know this. Not sure his devilish ad campaign is going help this either. imo.
The goal he has set for himself is difficult to do but can be done, How well will be seen. But hats off to him for picking up the ball and running with it. Its a fairly heavy ball, and is a old approach with a new detector.
The appearance is that Paul is trying to derail the Pulse Devil and any new generation of PI detectors. It appears Paul is trying to prove that the top detector designers haven't done a good job in building a discriminating PI detector.
His argument is that the PI detectors do not descriminate perfectly between gold and iron based on his claim that he can take a combination of target materials to trick the best detectors into making an error in discrimination. He bolsters his argument against the new detectors with further claims that metal detectors need to get FCC approved, and that he seriously doubts that some of the new detectors are legal.
But wait... Is that all he is trying to prove? Isn't he also trying to prove that he does not make mistakes, only others do? Does it appear that in order to prove his point, he feels it necessary to show that he never has made an incorrect statement, while the top metal detector designers have?
Now what's wrong with this picture?
1. Are there no laws against libel?
While most people know that PI technology has it's limitations, Paul is painting a picture that the public is being decieved by false claims made by PI designers. Specifically, he has targeted the Pulse Devil, looking for a way to disprove the Pulse Devil in his effort to derail NC_Dave's commercial venture:

"If you or anyone has a Pulse Devil that is making similar claims then I would very much like to try and disprove it. I think people are getting tired of these sales scams and false ads".
However, according to its inventor, the Pulse Devil does discriminate. Can it be fooled by a combination of targets that Paul puts together? We will not know until it is tested on a combination of targets that Paul puts together. The point is that Paul has made claims against the Pulse Devil based on theories that he may be able to demonstrate on some other metal detectors, but has NEVER demonstrated on a Pulse Devil.
Paul goes on to say:

"Here is yet another way your unit can be tricked or shall I say the poor person trusting the machine. There very well could be an actually piece of iron, but next to that iron could be a really nice nugget or find. :-)".
But according to NC_Dave, the Pulse Devil found a small gold nugget next to a rusty iron bolt that other detetors didn't find. Who are we to believe? Paul or Dave? Is it Paul's contention that Dave is lying to us?
I should point out that at this time NC_Dave has not advertized his Pulse Devil invention. The statements he made were to answer questions that people have been asking. NC Dave has taken measures to limit his discussions to providing answers to peoples questions in this forum and others. As far as I know, the Pulse Devil is not for sale At this time, and will not be advertized until the field testing is done and manufacturing details are dealt with.
So what is the basis for Paul saying: "I think people are getting tired of these sales scams and false ads"?
How can Paul say "..your unit can be tricked or shall I say the poor person trusting the machine."?
Paul used unfounded statements to prove his points. Paul has provided NO proof that the Pulse Devil cannot discriminate. Paul has provided NO proof of any false ads whatsoever (isn't this is called libel)? Is Paul's intent to seek to destroy any business that NC_Dave may have with his clientele? Where is the apology from Paul for his libelous statement? Can Paul prove the Pulse Devil is a "scam" and has placed "false ads"?
Paul talks about how he is civil and others are not. Is it civil to make unfounded attacks on another person's business ventures? Has NC_Dave shown any degree of un-civil behavior to warrant this kind of treatment?
2. FCC approval for metal detectors?
Paul launched a new campaign to convince the "garage designer" that they must get FCC approved, stating that if they "put a 400+ volt pulse on a 2-foot coil and you are asking for trouble with the FCC". Paul's warning to the garage designer is "The U.S. government is busy, but eventually they will get around to it and then the nightmare begins". He finally summarizes his knowledge about detector legality with this statement:

It does not matter if the detector is legal, which I seriously doubt some of these new ones are. They need to get FCC approved, period.
Most of the forum posters who work in the electronics field replied telling Paul that he doesn't know what he is talking about. I read replies with comments like "Get a life", "this is flat out wrong", "wasting my time", "retarded", "I doubt anyone would care to listen", "Paul, you do not know what you are talking about", "You just seem to post crap", "Bruce Candy would not be so stupid!", "Techo wannabe", "...his own self importance! LOL LOL".
I don't know what strength of harmful interfering emmissions come from my metal detectors. I can't find any FCC approval stamp or compliance stamp anywhere on any of them. Did the manufacturers sell me illegal metal detectors?
Also I have a bigger problem: I have been planning to build a Hammerhead PI detector. Will I get dragged into court as soon as the U.S. government "eventually" gets around to it? Does the Hammerhead PI need to get FCC approval? Should I believe the nightmare is about to begin, or should I believe the comments posted in the reply to Paul's post? Does Paul know what he is talking about, or is he just posting this stuff to try to scare NC_Dave into spending more money for attorneys to seek FCC approval?
Question for Paul:
I am really scared now. I don't want to go to jail, not even to court! Can you show me some cases of "garage designers" going to court for violating FCC regulations with their metal detectors? I did a number of searches, and I couldn't find any information about that. Are the designers of these illegal detectors being fined or imprisoned in the U.S.? Also, can you tell me if I need to sell my Minelabs, Garret, and White's metal detectors so I won't get cited for violation of FCC regulations? None of these detectors have an FCC compliance notice on them.
Well, I would say Paul isn't the only one who has had this question. And most normal power VLFs are compliant, but not tagged. Or filed. Though I would bet the larger manufacturers get em tested at a lab for emissions and file that away just in case. Most PIs are probably not compliant and probably could be a reason for Whites old PI something or other being so weak on the xmit, or they just didn't want to try and sell carrying a car battery around with you.
Minelab made mine detectors. More concern with other things then batteries and the gold guys would carry a real car battery around if it would find gold. And out in Oz land they probably don't interfere with much.
The ads show multiple frequencies (harmonics) so not trying to hide anything here. But until somebody complains and the detectors become a problem I wouldn't expect anyone to spend there gov budgets chasing down the detectors.
Now someone could build a detector which is a problem and they would probably get shut down and thats about it, unless the FCC wanted to prove they did this with somekinda evil intent. So not smart to ignore this aspect of commerical production either and why the biggys want to know if they are out of compliance to start with and where they are out of compliance, so they are ready incase.
There are a lot of things out there which are not compliant and are not tagged. Name one you say. Ok, 1/2 horsepower electric power drill. Nice sparky brushes (spark transmitter) and pulls alot of current sparking, it also has no emi input filter and uses the house wiring as an antenna.
Intermittant interferer.
Now the deal with Paul, gee I guess he didn't like his question ignored but hey thats the deal with forums, got to play nice if you want to get answers, and you still may not get them. And Dave will have to get ready for all sorts and kinds of flak during the next years. Wait till the pulse devil really hits the Oz forums, they spare no one.
