  • It's not ground noise is it?!

    Hi Guys,
Have not visited the site for some time and probably a little late on a few posts but Wow, bit of noise been generated too.
Below comments are not aimed at anyone and Carl, I hope you don't mind me posting this...

Must say I cringed when reading some posts...man and I thought this forum was for people who enjoyed metal detecting!

It is one thing to be right and another to accept when you are wrong...gracefully.

Please don't destroy a good forum by side plays and egos.
There are a great many contributors with sound knowledge and experience in metal detectors and electronics and others still wanting to learn. We are not here to beat chests...are we?

Facts can't be changed (can they?) but the way they are presented can be.

Cyberspace is a faceless arena where people can easily step over the mark and not realize they have done so until the enter key has been pressed. Or worse still, think they are untouchable and continue to despatch gibberish that is not at all related to the subject at hand.

Perhaps thinking before tapping the enter key is in order?

Of course, this won't stop the stirrers but if there is nothing for them to feed on, they will go away, whoever they are

Anyway, keep up the ideas and exchanges people, it's all good stuff!

Oh, an update for those interested.
My TI DSP based detector while working reasonably well, draws way too much current to be hand held and I have switched back to a Pic DSp based design which draws around 300mA ....much better than 900ma of the Ti based unit!

Electronovice, I think you were the guy who was interested in using the PicDsp? Sorry did not look up the posts, going off the old grey matter here. Well worth the effort just in case you are interested as they have improved the ADC performance up to 1 MSPS.

    Cheers

Geotech to me has always been the one place serious minds could gather to discuss the technical side of metal detecting and has been a great resource for those of us who are more electronically challenged. I have learned a great deal here over the years and rountinely recommended the site to others who have expressed an interest in building a coil or modifying a machine.

That said the fact is one or two button pushers can ruin a forum. I have seen it happen quite a number of times on other once popular forums. I don't know about anyone else but I am seeing a fair amount of email behind the scenes on this topic. Probably 4-5 in the last couple of weeks. People are frustrated and increasingly annoyed.

The button pushers seem to enjoy ruining a forum for whatever strange reason. They push peoples buttons and keep pushing until they get a response then when that forum member is worn out and leaves they move on to the next.

I personally do not subscribe to the ignore them solution because you lose too may forum members that way, its too slow. If the button pusher fails to get a response they simply up the ante becoming more annoying until somebody does. Some will go away in time, others will not and have to be booted off. In either case by the time they have worn out a forum the damage has been done.

What does work is banning them, quickly and decisively. Kick them right to the curb. I realise this does not mesh well with the goal of providing a free and open forum for discussion but it is often the best solution for these types of individuals.

    Just my two cents worth.

      Muntari,

May I ask what PIC DSP you are using. I'm interested in Microcontrollers.

        Yes, Sure,

It's a DSPIC 30F6010 and variants of it.
