I need some help PLEASE!

A friend of mine built me a set of custom headphones, they work perfect on my Deleon, Eldorado, MXT, but they will not work on my Minelab X70, I have a cheap pair that work great on the X 70 I have changed the plug and changed the wiring! I am lost!! Three wires come from the head phones, Black, white, and red, on the old plug, the black was ground, white was middle, and red was out side. I change the red and white, then I left off red, then white, then I wapped them around, the olny one I left alone was the black as the ground! I AM LOST AND NEED HELP! I will be gratefull if anyone can help me.

Try using only white and red wires (which puts the two ear pieces in series) on the tip and ring of a stereo plug or tip and ground of a mono plug. Tape off the black to prevent shorts.

bb I tryed that, doesn't work on any detector, tryed both ways, these do have dual volume controls.
