  • Minelab Explorer

I need some help. I had previously tried to find a schematic for the Minelab Explorer metal detector because I blew two transistors. On closer examination I can see that the two transistors had writing on them that would identify them, but on mine the writing was partially gone on one transistor, and the other transistor was somewhat bubbly looking. If anyone has a Minelab Explorer, or has worked on the Explorer, and can open the case ( it is real easy, just unplug the coil connection, and remove a few screws) and let me know the writing on each transistor it would be greatly appreciated. The transistors are Q503 and Q504, they are almost next to the wires leading to the speaker. Q504 has a C3 and the rest is gone because when the transistor went bad it blew that portion of the transistor away. As I said the other transistor got hot enough to melt the plastic a bit. I guess these are for the audio because the detector works, but has no sound. Hard to use with no sount. The detector is a first model and really banged up, plus I modified the headphone jack. Any help would be appreciated because I cannot afford to get it fixed due to loss of my job. Thanks

for the transisitor q503 nearest to the large capacitor it's a bc32740

for the transistor q504 nearest to the speaker conector it's a c33740 ph90

you are best to use a desoldering tool or at best some desoldering wick. what ever you do don't over heat the soldering on the pcb or it will turn to crap and heat sink the legs of the transistors. It's a very fiddely job so take it easy.

    I hope you succeed
