        best detector for $

You are very limited in your choices for that kind of money. If you are going to spend your time detecting you need to spend a little bit of money for a good detector. I have had detectors since 1970. Right now I use a Minelad Explorer II (new about $1200) and a Tesoro Tejon (new ebay about $550) For a cheaper ldetector I would only recommend the Tesoro Tejon. It has great depth, manual ground balance and dual discriminators. The dual discriminators are great. Set the main on iron, the second somewhere around nickels . Get a hit, switch to the second discriminator and dig. This detector works great and has really great depth. After my Minelab went on the blink I bought a Tejon and used it civil war relic hunting. When I got my new Minelab I went back to get the deep stuff and found that almost everything had been found with the Tejon. Lifetime warranty to boot.

          Hello!

In reply to your message to me, i was talking about a detector in the 300.00 range!

TRY testing your expensive explorer and tejon against a 500.00

            That's a loaded question...

and here is the reason. If you want a metered machine then you will likely pay more than 300,nothing wrong with the 250 Ace but some areas require a unit to have ground balance on it, check with some in your area and see if any use it and then that will give you an idea of whether you will do well with one. Then if you want a good deep unit then then there are trade-offs to be made, yeah and for one thing a higher price to go along with it.
I think the 250 would be the safe one to go with from your list provided your ground is mild in minerals. I don't have one but there are a lot of users of the 250 and they are happy with its performance.
