After a long dry spell of no new articles posted on Geotech, I've just added one that explains induction basics and eddy currents. See All About Induction on the Metal Detector -> Info page.

Enjoyed the read, hey, are you Carl Mooreland? I may have your last name spelled wrong, if you are you wrote some very entertaining articles for Western and Eastern some years ago and they were abruptly stopped when multi-frequency was mentioned, I always wondered why, maybe the manufacturers didn't want any stepping on toes. If you are not, I still would like to hear why the write-ups were stopped. There seem to be a lot of Mikes interested in metal detecting.

Hi Steve,
Yes, I'm Carl Moreland. The last article I wrote for "Tech Talk" was on multi-frequency technology. It was supposed to be a 2-part article. W&ET published the first part, but once that issue hit the stands they told me that would be my last article.
Here's the odd part... there is a couple months lead time for publishing each issue, so when they cut me loose I had already written and submitted the second part of the multifrequency article. Also, they paid me a small amount (certainly not enough to make it worth my while) for each article. However, the magazine refused to publish Part 2, even though I told them it was free, they didn't have to pay me a dime for it. I didn't want to leave the topic just hanging in mid-air.
Oh well, I guess I stepped on some toes, though I intentionally tried not to.

P.S. -- the Induction article is a re-write of one of my columns. Coils is next.
