    DVT = Dual Voltage Technology.

    Minelab use this term to describe the situation where the pulse transmitter has two supply voltage levels. This is so that the peak pulse amplitude is the same for both the long pulse and the succeeding short pulses. For a single voltage supply, the current growth in the coil inductance would not reach the same level for a short pulse, as in a long pulse. The DVT method could be applied to either unipolar or bipolar PI's.

        Bipolar transmitters are used on PI mine detectors, so that there is no net magnetic field from the coil, just in case there is a sensitive magnetic fuse. For ordinary applications there is no advantage.
