Search Coils

A While back Carl said He buried a cache at 2 feet and could not Detect it. I was wondering If he tried different search coils??? You can have the Best Detector with tons Of power to the tx coil , but can't find anything deep!! How does a person know if the magetic field of the coil is going deep or is just staying parallel with the ground , perpendicular would be ideal and also if the coil itself is not running at a saturated level. The Search coil is so important , many take it for granted I Guess . It would be nice to see a few images of Search coil fields in the dirt , It can be done. Any ideas ?? I don't think changing search coils will matter that much. The reason why is the coil is still just seeing individual coins and it is not the same as one big item. Maybe a little gain with many coins but not the same as one single large item, that is my opinion.
