I am just getting ready to purchase a new Minelab and now I find out that they have a new detector out, the Explorer SE. Also the Explorer II Pro.

I take it the Explorer II Pro just has two searchcoils and that is the only difference between it and the Explorer II.

However, the Explorer SE makes me wonder what the difference is between the Explorer II and the Explorer SE?

    Anyone have any ideas?

I mostly relic hunt and the Minelab is great for the deep hard to get to buttons and minnies, but leaves a lot of great iron targets in the ground. So, I sometimes use my Tesoro Tejon which has two discriminators and does find the iron targets easily, But, the Minelab also has that coin shooting edge and it does go deeper although pinpointing is a true nightmare. But, Mindlab says they have improved that problem?

    Thanks

Well you will need to buy the latest model because in a couple of months an Explorer 2 won't be worth a carrot

What about X Terra 70 ? So as i heard it is very good device...

Speaking of Minelab's....can i use Minelab DD coil with other detectors?
      Which one?
Any amateur project which is gonna work fine with Minelab DD coil?

Might ruffle a few feathers, but here it goes. I've had quite a few detectors over the years and have even done head-to-head in-ground comparisons. The ground where I hunt is probably some of the worst and is often loaded with hotrocks. Lately, I've been reduced to just one detector and that's the X70. Compared to other detectors I've used/tested (Sov., GTI's, MXT, Cobra II, CZ6a, various Tesoros) it matches or exceeds the others in depth and definitely has the edge in sensitivity re. small targets. Took it up the Tulameen to see how it would do as a prospecting unit (with the HF 5x10" DD coil) and was pleasantly surprised. This area is soooo loaded with hotrocks that a number of local residents had advised me not to even bother using a VLF. Indeed, other VLF's I've used there would signal like crazy on the (literally) millions of hotrocks to a degree that made them almost unuseable. The MXT, with 5x10" DD, could be used.. but it also had problems. The X70 was surprisingly quiet and hotrocks that did sound off could be quickly ID'ed by switching to disc. mode. In some respects, it did better than my PI insofar as some of the hotrocks would give a good solid signal that even advancing the delay wouldn't eliminate. I dug a number of them up to check and .. yup, you guessed it, hotrocks. I would then do a comparison with the X70 and, while signalling strongly in AM, would ID down in the hotrock/iron range in disc. mode. The target would also have a broader "footprint". I'll be going out in a few days to play around on some claims and will be able to expand a bit on the subject afterwards. So far though, it seems to be a pretty damn good detector. As an aside, one of the most successful TH'rs that I've known swung an old Garrett Gold Stinger and, when that finally bit the biscuit, an older White's 4900d. ...Willy.

Hello jhettel, as a Minelab dealer I try to use as many of the different models that they make. I used the X70 for about 3 months straight and it is a great detector ! It will find coins and jewelry no problem. I am trying out the 3 Khz coil at this time and indeed it will go deeper than the 7.5 Khz coil. So the X70 seems to be that all around detector most are seeking. The new Explorer SE is next on the list to try out. Minelab said it has improved pinpointing on this one and the uprocessor has been upgraded to a more powerful and faster chip. I will say that the readout is a little sharper than the Exp. II. But there are quite a few improvements and I will just have to find out for myself. I am also working the Quattro and it is very slow in processing targets and there is a fair amount of deadtime involved with this model. But I like it because it can go deep and I like the audio. I can also see the readout. Hi Willy, I still have my old White's 4900 D and it is surprising how deep it can go. Ok I will go for now and God Bless all of you.
