Hi Ivconic .
Sorry but i have not solution to your problem. I want to say you that 44cm it is very big distance for one coin (very dificult) and 18cm is very small distance. I think that normal operation must be at the midle.
Regards
I agree Geo,
although 44cm was in the air and 17cm in the ground; which is descent depth on single quarter...it is not so poor.
I was hopping somebody know how to adjust all those trimms. in X3....but it seems that nobody know or just dont want to help..
We are different kind of people...Greetings to all!
Best regards to you Geo, friend!
Not possible that nobody knows nothing about Troy machines..?????
search the forum. there were comments that Troy has Tesoro's like schematic. has perfect PCB but was used schematics' known decisions. nothing of new? - I am not aware..

Hi ivconic,
your arrow is maybe some kind of rude steel. In the metallurgy of ancient weapons was frequent that wood carbon was mixed very well with iron minerals and then insuffled in the oven with air flow...all this stuff makes iron melt with carbon particles included in the matrix...thus giving , if timing is correct and air flow too, a rough kind of steel. This could explain why you got it with that little rusty surface you mentioned that from image it seems made of bronze !
Anyway, unfortunately I can't help you about troy cause I don't know anything about...but think that the 44cm in air claim...is a bit pumped up.
It's a big distance ...even in a good air-test...I totally agree with Geo.
Also the difference between in-air and in-ground seems much strange to me...usually if I can detect a coin e.g. at 35cm in air...I can detect it at 28 or also more cms in ground too !
Detectors with good in-air test and poor ground performances have lacks in coils or in the GEB design...but I don't think that troy are this way. Seems to me that some claims are just wrong and we need a good detector test made by third party ...like the belgium website have done...
Anyway, I think that if it's a good balanced and designed vlf you could for sure find where the problem is...obtaining a nice working (or also enhanced) machine !
No, it is arrow made from iron, but must be some progressive technique...very low rust although i founded it on terrain suspected to datet form early byzant period, maybe even Roman!? Axe is younger.....12-13 century, also iron...although not sure yet...
I found so far over 2000 arrows...but this one is most strange, most beautifill....first time i see this kind!?
Hi Ivconic,
I checked your arrowpoint and surely isn't medieval, probably not even Byzantine (even if it's kind a simmilar ..), also not Roman.
So the last period possible is prehistoric (iron-age 1000bc - 300bc). The most simmilar in shape (iron ones) are from 3rd century bc in my country.
Pickhammer can be very well roman (dolabra) but also late medieval or even later.
I doubt you have found them at the same spot. Am I right??
Leto; no of course not. Distance between spots was 30-50 meters...It is not unusuall that roman and later byzant cities were located on same location.....Why building new when we have old, just need some rearrangements? So here in Servia (like everywhere else) we have situation when many cites are roman and byzant at the same time...Various items man can find on same place but from very different periods, thats why i am not confused about those 2 items...I had situations to find coins from 4th or 5th century on the same location where already founded medieval coins and tools....Usuall..
KT315..yes i think i saw simillar claims here in the past, but i dont have starting point. All Tesoro's schematics i do have are totally different from Troy....More like to look on some Fisher...but not sure...
To many trimmers here! Small smd pcb, tied nets, mixed up! Sheeesh! I am not that good to easily trace out all and do reverse on this!
Yes it have MC33178 and TLC2262 and simillars like Bandido...
I am gonna make list of ic's but this doesnt mean nothing...
I was thinking must be easier way; if somebody already know which trimmer is for what to make me easy...But it seems is gonna be harder way; i'll need to do it by myself...
Yes Troy is hell of machine. Very small difference in depth in air and on the ground... Now it can detect quarter at 17cm in gnd...I would be very satisfied if gain 25cm at same coin....I think brand new Troy can do that, even better....
Yo Carl! You have X5 (same as X3). Why dont you check its performances on coin, in the air and on the ground!? Than post here, so i can have some reference.....Let's say 1 euro or simillar...
Little investigation;
"Tesoro Spoked Coils: 9x8 and 12x10" have same shape as my coil on X3?
Also spoted same shaped coils with Tesoro's Vaquero and Tejon...?
But on my X3 is label that cleary shows it is made under Fisher....blah!?
So earlier we found out that X2 is made by Tesoro, X3 and X5 by Fisher?
What the hell is going on here? Who made which? Why? What kind of mixup
is that?
I can agree with KT315 that there is something "misty" which connect
Troy's and Tesoro.....
On the other hand Troy is also connected with Fisher too?
How come that we here have a lot of schematics from many detectors but
neither one from Troy ?
Also if you look at Troy's pcb, the way it been made.....pretty simillar
as Tesoro's pcbs for G.Sabre and Bandido...?
Small,neat,smt...perfect as KT315 mentioned!

Anyway...
Does state of battery corelate with accuracy of discrimination on X3?
I noticed; when put brand new, fresh alkaline battery (9v) in X3 disc
is acting different than after 30-40 minutes of working...
Depth remains the same.
For example:
Disc is set to "3"....absolute discrimination of iron with fresh battery.
Later when battery drains a bit i can gain absoulte discrimination of
same iron on position a bit lower than "3"...let's say "2.8"...???
I noticed as times goes by, i am starting to miss some iron items????
So i lowered DISC a bit and gained ocassional "cracks" in audio which
indicate iron items in the ground.
My favorite setup is to discriminate iron items just enough to hear them
with "cracks" in sound, but not full discrimination with no sound, so i can
stay awared of any eventual founds. Later i can decide wheter i am gonna
dig it or not.
Power consumption on X3 is:
- 18mA without detection and sound,
- 30-40mA with detection and sound (dependable on strenght of signal)
I presume this is the way it should be, so supply is good on this X3.
.....
So far this...tomorow i'll open X3 again and do much detailed examination.
I'll try to trace some nets...!!! Huh! I hate this part!
If i dont come back here tomorow or day after tomorow it will mean only
one thing:
I died trying to trace it out!
So, this may be my last post....Good bye friends! Heh,heh, heh!!!
It is not anything special about this device, it is about me. I cant stand
having device without knowing it better...
No success!
Somehow i adjusted it to detect coin at 22cm...But..
Today i spend whole day tesing it on real field....Detected 8 roman coins very easy....but, it is behaving very strange...Changing way of working every 5-6 minutes? Adjusted again, same...agin, same...Must be some broken component inside...I have doubts on those tantalums....
Also connected mr.Troy Galloway...He offered me service very friendly...But no way for me to send it there...over the border.
Also told me that it is not possible to adjust it without special instruments and good knowing of procedure....There are 3 trimmers very important which cant be adjusted just like that...
I am satisfied to see some good spirit form mr.Galloway, good willing to help...
But it seems that we can not solve this problem....i cant send it abroad...
Anyway, i'll keep it as specimen in my collection. Also coil is very good, think to use it with my handmades....
regards!
