Ok... PM's seem to work... not sure about PM notification as the notification mechanism may have changed in the new version.

It appears there is no more pop-up window that notifies you have a PM. And I don't see an option to bring it back.

It probably is no big deal... the Notifications and Messages Turn red at the right hand side. Just have to get used to looking at the Message and Notification icons!

The text line height is too small. A small change in the line height seems to help

Skippy, I completely forgot to follow up on your problem. Tech support responded with this:

Basically, make sure you are accessing with "https://www.geotech1.com/forums". I have a server-side redirect for http:// and https://geotech1.com/forums but I'm not sure they are working, when I use the latter it thinks I'm not logged in.

I agree, I also find the default font size to be a bit small. So I've bumped up the font sizes and increased the line height. Good suggestion, thanks.

Search button in the header falls below the search box, this can be fixed by:

#header .toolbar {
width: 252px;
}

changed to:

#header .toolbar {
width: 270px;
}

Is it possible to add pagination to the forum topics so you can directly jump to the last or any other page? It was available in the legacy version. Something like this:

It's not part of the new system, I'll see if there is a mod for that.

I work as a web developer Carl. Started working some 12 years ago by doing CSS/HTML for couple of years then moved to PHP and JS and a little bit of this and that. Will gladly help with the new forum clothes.

I am a full time web developer as well, both frontend and backend. I'll be glad if I can help in any way, for free of course, as a thank you for all the knowledge I gathered from this forum over the years.

I'm sorry to say it this way; but the new look of the forum is unbearable. It tires the eyes very quickly.
And it's hard to navigate. It's hard to keep up with threads, new posts, etc.
Maybe I'm too used to the old look.
But than again... why change if it has worked well for years and we are all used to it?
Why doesn't Mercedes change its trademark, for example?
Maybe time has overtaken me, I'm not the oldest here, but I feel very old and tired.
I'm not for such visual/mental acrobatics anymore.
If sometimes I manage to find the right topic at the right time to post something... ok, but if I'm not there
it just means that I'm lost in these contrasts and colorfulness.
Not only that, every time I visit a "new" forum and open something to look at; some new "irregularity" in behavior occurs. I'm more bored to follow and count them.
It is obvious that the script is very "dynamic" and that by changing one; you affect a lot of other changes. You patch one hole... and 5 others open up!
I am not obliged to suffer someone to forcefully train me. At the same time, my vision and nerves suffer.
I am truly sorry that I have to write all this like this. But just to explain, so that no one would misunderstand my resignation.
Carl, you should have bought yourself a "Porschaaa" two seater, found a young girl, gone to Vegas and spent some money...anything was better than this!

As I said before, the old forum was running on borrowed time. It has already gone down twice in the last year or so, both times because my hosting service upgraded me to PHP 8 which the old forum does not support. They manually downgraded me to PHP 7.4 but told me this would soon become impossible. So I decided to upgrade before another shut-down. But I did keep the logo exactly the same, just like Mercedes.

The red/gold color scheme is very close to the old forum. I've tried to improve contrast where it is most important. If you were using the blue/gray vB4 color scheme, sorry, that was not included in vB5. But there are several other color schemes you can use if you don't like the 'Geotech' colors.
