I acquired two CTX’s owned by the same guy. He used them in the water a lot as the connectors had corrosion. Both detectors didn’t work right. One posted a coil detect fault, the other would only detect big things. I buzzed out pins 1-2 to 6-7 and both had this open - meaning an open TX coil. Turns out both had breaks in TX wires in more than one place! This means that this has been going on for a long time before an obvious fault appeared. I’m thinking to check for this I’d run a constant current test with bench supply. Coils with issues would require a higher voltage and that would show the issue.
The breaks were inside the coil as well as under the cable flex relief.
So if your CTX hasn’t found many targets in awhile you might want to check this.
