  • Radioshack Discovery 3 questions

Hello All, I am newly retired and wish to get going in metal detecting. I bought a RadioShack Discovery 3 unit at a garage sale. It looks brand new and seems to work but I have no paperwork on it and unfortunately, RadioShack took down their site that contained all their manuals. I am in need of the operating manual or at least a copy of same. This looks like a fairly good unit and I want to take advantage of all it's features. Can anybody help with some info or at least a direction to get some info? My wife says me staying in all day is not going to work. I need to get out with this unit and get to work. Please help if you can. Thanks...Mark Z Lowell Indiana

Discovery 3 or Discovery 3000? Most likely made by First Texas, if you can post a photo I can find the right manual.

i believe it is Big Bud Pro re-named for selling in RadioShack shops net.

Yes, it's a variant of the Big Bud Pro, so it predates when First Texas bought out Bounty Hunter. Here's the closest manual I can find:

Thanks a bunch Carl-NC. that does looks just like mine except mine does not have the meter like the Big Bud Pro. I am sure the operation is the same so that should get me going in the right direction. Now I am off and running. And thanks to kt35 as well for the research. This is a great group. I will be monitoring this group for future developments....Mark Z

The Big Buds were designed by George Payne and are regarded as very capable detectors by those who owned them. I never had one so I can't say.

I am attaching the manual of the Discovery 3 as provided by the Radio Shack.

                  Hope it helps somehow.

I remember seeing a patent for this design. I think it was by George Payne. Yes. But this one looks quite different to the big bud pro circuit.
