Hi got a friends a3b vlf to look at. Unit wont GB and very insensitive also disc is barely evident.. any schematics or advise.(this unit has been stored in a hot garage roof for a log time here in AUS)

That's not good, caps might be baked out. Depending on how the coil is made, extreme heat can shift the windings and mess up the balance.

I haven't seen a schematic for this floating around... Garrett might be willing to provide one since it's obsolete. You could try pulling a couple of caps off and testing them to see if that's the general problem. Or try to find another coil.
