  • Stick detector search head question.

I have been using my stick detector made from a this https://newhobby.eu/en/home/172-54-p...ound_coil_6_cm a Teemo design. Works well especially with the LED lights blue for ferris and red for non ferris when detection is found, so simple with out a LED display just basic. Very discreet with folding head with the coil shaped into a oblong to make more compact. I have found quite a lot of things with this design, Its only problem is depth, it could do with about have two more inches of depth added or more for it to be perfect. A friend of mine suggested replacing the 6cm search coil with a 4.5 inch sniper coil, could this be done or would i have to change anything on the circuit board and battery voltage etc. The 4.5 inch coil could be incorporated into the walking stick design as a walking stick seat though it wont be used as a seat.

"Very discreet ... with the coil shaped into a oblong to make more compact"
This will make the coil perform more like a coil the same size as the width of your oblong. If you are going to try experimenting with larger coils, I suggest making the width 6cm or 7cm ( and the length presumably 9 or 10cm ). I don't think 'large' coils will work well on this design - you may get undesired responses from electrical interference, or the Earths magnetic field, for example.

Looks like the circuit design is not going to be suitable to upgrade to go deeper with small sniper coil to keep it discrete to the stick project. I most probably need a circuit design or kit or made up board, that i can use such a coil but also have the discriminator feature showing the led lights picking up the ferris and non ferris finds. I find this feature plain and simple than showing a led screen. Any such circuit discriminating boards about?
Would this design work better with a sniper coil and is Teemo still currently selling these kits, anyone bought one.

He did reply to a email i sent him if i could fit such a coil here is his reply,
"you cannot use a standard coil from MD - the coil for pinpointer must have inductance 1500 uH. It is used for generating frequency, not for emitting signals.
I tested this model with a large coil (not remember - 15-20 cm) - the distance increases very little. That's why I sell it only as a pinpointer"

Great pinpointer, though i could get a little bit more depth but not to worry, if i could find a similar sized board with the light features with a bit more depth using a small coil like a sniper coil, that would be great.

I made a 10cm coil a while ago just for testing and it worked perfectly only the wire should be firm if it moves it gives a false signal
