  • Deus 2 or Manticore

I am about to update my collection of "tools" (toys).
    Big dilemma!
Should I buy Deus 2 or Minelab Manticore.
So far I heard not exciting info about Deus 2.
My brother in law has it.
So far he is not managing well.
On the other side I never saw Manticore in live.
    But I have Vanquish 340.
Vanquish 340 turns out to be nice surprise and refreshment, considering it is low budget, but still implemented with "Multi-IQ".
Logically I would assume that Manticore is the top notch from those, including the same technology.
So I am rather tempted to buy Manticore.
But some direct personal experiences would help me a lot to decide.
Anyone can help me in this hard choice for me?

      Thanks!
      I will see that.
Also some direct personal overviews from the owner are very welcome!

        Wow!
This is probably the best done test I've seen so far! Congratulations! As if I directly set the test conditions!
I am delighted with the knowledge of the man who took this test! A very rare case!
This video should be a reference for anyone who intends to record similar tests.
I haven't seen such a clever approach since the days of the Norfolk Wolf!
        ...
What I miss is Manticore on the same test.
The Deus 2 has better ergonomics for my harsh hunting conditions. The Manticore has a design that I've often criticized.
But my intuition tells me that Manticore is way ahead of Deus 2 in everything else.
But! I will not hastily draw final conclusions.

Interesting! Same author, different testing conditions and Manticore didn't make a name for itself? Even more; it turned out worse than Deus 2!???
But even more interesting; my Vanquish 340 did much better than that in a similar test!
The only logical explanation I can think of: Manticore is not set up as well as it can be, in terms of "masking".
Or it just can't overcome that problem easily or at all?!?
This reminds me of xx years ago when I was very impressed with the ML Explorer SE.
Until the moment when I side-by-side tested ML Explorer SE and XP Gold Max Power.
Gold Max Power "ate" ML for breakfast in the "masking" test! And the very next day I sold SE and bought GMP!
Hmmm... now I know even less than before starting this thread!
My initial enthusiasm for the Manticore is quickly waning...
That is why personal direct experience of an experienced owner and user is still needed here...

Many people who 'upgraded' from an Eqx 600/800 to a Manticore seemed to struggle, and discovered the improvement is subtle, and requires more effort to get the best out of it.
It's worth you considering getting a secondhand Equinox.
I use an Eqx 600, and though it has its faults, it's a very effective machine.

I would recommend you the "minelab sovereign gt" with the VDI prefix. This "grandfather" is capable of a lot more than his "famous" great-grandchildren). In general, however. Everything is always individual. From personal preferences in ergonomics to real field/ground search conditions. There is no ideal, there is always a compromise.

I have to admit that I took the plunge a few weeks ago and also bought a Manticore. As I've only been out on one dig with it so far, It's way too soon to give any sort of evaluation yet, ask me after another 100 hours of use or so . Having said that, my initial impressions are very positive and I was able to be productive with pretty much out-of-the-box settings.

I've had the the 2. Not impressed with both. The Manticore was tested against cheap VLFs and actually performed worse with the stock settings. Deus 2 seems to work nice for small coins. I would use it because it's lightwight but not going to pay the asking price at all.

Dear colleagues! It seems to me that there is no point in arguing or debating which MD is better or worse. After all, many of you are professionals in this field. The principles applied in these MD are limited by the laws of physics. You know that the best discriminator is a shovel). Only it gives a 100% result. Everything else is 50/50% ...)). Therefore, many MD development companies have gone towards MD ergonomics. Since search/discriminatory characteristics cannot be improved in any way using these principles of MD operation. We are all limited by physics and luck...))

Watch the video from post #2 and if you have time; perform the same test.
That's the only aspect I am interested about.
You don't need to do everything the guy from video did.
Just place 4 nails and the bronze coin in the middle and test.
Distances from nails to coin in the middle... say 1-10cm in 3 steps; 1cm, 5cm and 10cm.
                          That will do for me.

Good evening everyone. I read yours and decided to add it too. I've been using Equinox 900 for the last year. And so far I'm happy. He has very good discrimination. I have been going to the mountains with a metal detector for many years. I still have enough of them, but many are on the shelf in the warehouse. 900 sees deeper into both monticores and deus 2. And to find a coin among the nails (garbage), you just need to wave the sensor more slowly. correspond to the speed you set. This is the first device in so many years of searching when I know that under the coil there is an iron horseshoe. I even started listening to deep, harsh (non-ferrous) metal among the garbage (fine iron). Before buying Equinox, I tried both Monticore and Deus2. I have three coils of different sizes. each one does its job.. if Google translated something incorrectly, I will answer again.I add. The 900 sees silver very well..

OK, I'm away for a few weeks on business but will do the test you ask for when I get back and then post the results.
