  • BIY with am radio

Does anyone remember a set of plans that used an am radio as part of the build for a basic metal detector? It would have been 30 years ago and may have been through Pop. Science or mechanics.

If so, could you either forward it to me or a link, I can't find anything.

    Happy New Years.

Thanks for the advice, I am looking for a small simple project for my son. A buddy of mine built a similar project many years ago and was quite happy with its performance, as a young man, that is!

You can build a simple bfo with audio. I am sure that will give more fun to your son.

Also you can build the PLL with meter

Thank you for the added ideas, much appreciated. The winter is long enough for us to build all three or four! Meryy Christmas.

Please let us know what you think about the PLL design when you've built it. I built this one (and also simulated it) several years ago, and it was rubbish. There was some dispute about this in another thread, so it would be good to get a third opinion.

I already have questions on the PLL design, I wonder what guage wire was used, wether it is to be jumble wound or wound like a tube, in an orderly fashion or stacked 7x7? This looks like a lot of fun for myself just in case it flops. I wouldn't want to dissapoint Junior.

Hi. I made it before .....who knows......25..27 years . Ohh ..what fast where pernave the years !!! With a small board and a meter is OK. As i remember it had the ability to detect a table watch (do you remember the watches was metallic) at 40 cm with a coil about 40cm ...i don't remember exactly. You must use a 0.5mm wire ... not so critical.. and an inductance 500uH...this is a bit critical.. at any form you like.
