  • diamagnetic property of gold

I read recently that gold is only second to Bismuth in it's anti magnetic properties. The illustration showed a piece of Bismuth floating between two rare earth magnets.
Would this factor affect the eddy current decay time from a gold target? If so could this or does this enter into the profile of PI nuggethunting.
It seems that with microprocessor based detectors comming on, that profiles on metals might be stored to compare signals. Any thoughts, Wyndham

      Diamagnetic property of gold

Diamagnetic - having a magnetic permeability less than that of a vacuum; slightly repelled by a magnet.

I have pondered a similar type of observation; namely, if there is a gold bar in the ground, wouldn't the magnetic lines of force of the earth's magnetic field deflect around the gold bar. AND could there be some way of detecting this as an anomoly in the earth's field to locate gold? Conversly, an iron box in the ground would attract the magnetic lines.

        Hi Wyndham,
maybe you can take a look at this (old) article (2 parts):

        http://geotech.thunting.com/pages/me...byn/corbyn.pdf

        http://geotech.thunting.com/pages/me...yn/corbyn2.pdf

It's an old m.d. project - pulse induction type.
You could be interested in the example of a gold target current decay model.

        Best regards,
        Max

Thanks Max, It will be a bit of deep reading for me but I am glad I have a definative overview of the PI system, at least for the forseeable future. Thanks again. Wyndham
