Anyone use this VisualSpice (schematic editor and simulator) by Island Logix? http://www.islandlogix.com/html/products.html

    They are having a "sale",

    VS Personal $99
    VS Standard $149
VS Pro $299 on sale for $199
VS Advanced $399 on sale for $98 ?????

What the hell I went ahead and purchased the Advanced version for $98.

Charles in response to your question

I have used the Turbosim by them

many years ago. It ran fast, but had

errors. It too was on sale for about

100 bucks. There was one thing in the

pull down menu that would crash the program

everytime. I spoke to the guy who wrote

the program once but communication was

      difficult.

I use other things then and now.

and that was ten years ago roughly or more.

Charles, did you ever get your VisualSpice? I order mine a month ago, got an email that said "thank you for your money," then nothing. They don't answer emails, and the phone is disconnected.

As Phil Collins said...No Reply At All.
They took my money and went silent. I've filed a refund request with the credit card folks.

                Better Off

                Hi Carl,

well in my humble opinion you are

probably better off. Sure the spice

part of this is still full of bugs.

Alot of the expense "real" combo

packages with the schematic, layout, simulate

                don't work well either.

this one maybe offers too much

for too little. Anyway sorry it didn't

                happen. Was hoping maybe they

cleaned up the act. Got to quit doing

                that.

                hoping that is

                never works.

                  similar experience

I only found this site and thread doing a google search on island logix. I got my $98 copy several weeks ago and loaded it up and ran a couple simple simulations. It seemed to work ok. I then got a new computer and had to reload it. It won't let me activate the program since it is already registered to another computer - my old one. I have sent 5 emails over the past 3+ weeks with no reply.

I am actually quite experienced with Spice. I have used TopSpice from Penzar development for 13 years or so. It is in the $400 price range as I recall and is VERY solid. The folks who make opamp spice models at my company, Texas instruments (the largest manufacturer of analog semiconductors in the world) use TopSpice as the standard for testing models.

TI also has somewhat of a partnership with a company in Hungary called Designsoft. They have a spice-based program called Tina. The full-power version is also in the $400 range. A simplified but very useful version, Tina-TI is available for free at TI.com. Along with an upgrade path to commercial versions that is cheaper than just buying it direct. I think this is the easiest spice program to use for beginners.

A company called Beige Bag software has a similar product in a similar price range as TopSpice and Tina. I have no experience with it but I know other engineers who love it.

One or TI's competitors, Linear technology, has a free version of spice that is somewhat limited in features compared to these commercial offerings, but which is still damn good. www.linear.com

Other than these guys you have to get up into the $2000+ range for products that are only slightly better and, in some cases, not any better.

fyi, the 3 email addresses I have used for visual spice are; '[email protected]'; [email protected]; [email protected]. I have not called yet. A number I found in my google search is 954-981-6998.

Since I am not a regular here, if any of you have luck contacting these bozo's can you email me at [email protected]?

                  Thanks.

                    Beige Bag

Wow that is interesting on the Beige Bag software.

I had some old version 1 or something 20 years ago.

It was not very exciting. But of interest to some on the

forum is it imports and exports to Eagle layout.

I have used various spice programs for way too many years.

                    PSpice ($9000.00) is my standard.

But for just plain fun and getting most stuff done

Circuitmaker Pro is the most fun I have found.

Don't like the hook up scopes and meters in

many of these. Beige Bag included.

Interesting post, the spice world is always changing.

Are Island Logix a real company?

Have to report a similar experience.

I've had the thing working before although to call it diabolical is a gross understatement.

The technical support consists of attempts to get you to "upgrade" even though you had it working last week on the same PC which you have now formatted and re-installed the software on. Add ignoring emails and responding to the wrong question and you have the Keystone Cops of software development.

                      Legal action may be necessary.
