One suggestion is that you assemble it block by block and fence by taking measurements. You must also take measurements of each component that you place so that you avoid mistakes and so that each stage works correctly.

    • Scope pics look like the ones in Dons TGSL 101.pdf.
So far so good. Keep going.

Well, now it's too late, I soldered everything, but very carefully

        • Hi friends!!
I am in block number 6 and I took measurements with the oscilloscope although there are no measurement points in this block but I wanted to do it anyway.
I took measurements on channel 1 at 5V, 20uS and channel 2 at 5mV, 20uS. Channel 1 always in TX.

The first measurement was at pin 1 of U103 with J3 in DISCO mode and R18 set to maximum.Click image for larger version

The second measurement was at pin 7 of U103 with R22 set to maximum.Click image for larger version

In both cases I see the signals very similar and with interference. I hope I'm doing well.

I saw your TGSL board. You used high-level components. I hope you succeed.

Looks ok with no target. Try again and wave a piece of metal past the coil. Should then see a change at those pins.
These are the outputs of the first integrator stage. See Carl & George's book, ITMD for explanation of what these do.

In both cases I see very similar signals but this time without interference.
I took measurements with the multitester in the 200mV range. DC. at both points and got readings ranging from -1mV to 5mV.

I passed through the iron metal coil and the waveform began to vary. I hope I'm on the right track.

I am in block number 8 and I took the measurements with the oscilloscope on channel 1 at 5V, 50uS and channel 2 at 5mV, 50uS. On channel 1 always TX.

                    Both show the same image.
I took a measurement with the multitester in the range of 200mV DC on pins 2 and 6 of U 106 and varying R36 (Pot. Sens.) and obtained measurements from 2.2mV to 34.8mV. I hope I'm on the right track.

                    • Now I am in block number 12 and I took a measurement with the multitester on pin 5 of U 107 in the range of 20V DC and I got -5.8V.
I will continue with the last stage, I hope to be successful.

                      • Hello friends, I finally finished assembling the TGSL and did tests and it seems to me that the DISCO works, also when I tried a US 1 cent coin it did not detect it in any of the modes so I had to turn the GB little by little until that was detected.
Also the copper was not detected and I had to move the GB to be able to detect it. Before that I had to nullify the ferrite first.

I tried the scope with the US 1 cent coin and got 15cm. with the sensitivity to the minimum and you hear clearly and without interference. When I turn the sensitivity up to maximum there are little clicks but you can still hear the detection sound. Is there any way to reduce that noise or is it because I am in a place where there are interferences and noises.
                        Any help will be welcome.
I'll continue tomorrow and see how far TGSL goes.
                        THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!!

                        • Congrats on a successful build.

You are probably picking up some EMI from the AC mains and other electronics in your house.
Try it outside away from electrical stuff.
Typically the Sensitivity control is increase until you hear noise then backed down until quiet.

Is the US 1 cent a newer Zinc coin or and older (pre-1982) copper coin?

Do you have any Silver coins, pre-1965. These will not be detected if the GB trim is too high.
The GB trim is very, very touchy. A 10-15 turn trim pot would be much better.

                          • Hello Walt!!
                            I used this American coin.

I am going to get myself a multi-turn potentiometer for the GB, I notice that it is necessary to be able to regulate it with more precision.

Thank you very much for your advice!!!

Where is from my friend?before i builded the original TGSL with the worst components, the worst assembly, no facilities and no scoop, with a handmade loop that I nulled with a multimeter. The test video is on the previous pages.
Now, how do you have a problem with using the best components and the best facilities ?? Do not be too upset, you will succeed !!
