  • Whites XLT-E series Question.

Hi, I own a Whites XLT-E and was wondering if there was anyway to check it out to see if it needs a service. For some reason when I bought the detector, I loved it. It worked great. But, now it seems that it is not performing as good as I remembered. I found out that there is no calibration needed, but the coil could have gone out of tune. Is there any way to check the coil out? I was also told by a whites' employee that the capacitor values driving the coil could have wavered over time. Is it worth it to replace them?? The detector is about 10 years old.
    Thanks, Dan.

I thought the E-series was started about 5 years ago. Caps should not have drifted that quickly. Best thing to do is compare with another XLT, even swap the coils. BTW, there is no difference with E and non-E XLTs.

Sorry, I must be mistaken. I thought I saw the date of 1998 on the circuit board inside. Maybe that was the date of the ciruit design? I bought the detector a few years ago, used, so I do not know the exact date of manufacture. I would like to know if there is a way to check the coil to see if its ok.

      Thanks, Dan.

If you send an email to Whites with the serial number (which I believe is inside the battery compartment) they can tell you the exact date of manufacture.

          TEST

Did you air test in the all metal mode?
Try using a penney and post how far.
