Tuning for Joe(tx)

I just went through a Bounty Hunter Marauder XV.It sounds off and detects metal, but not sure exactly how to tune it. Joe you had said that if you know what controls were on a machine that you could say how to tune. Will here goes. It has four knobs, on and off battery A and B test.-- Ground Adjust.--One that shows All metal,foil,pull tab,screw cap. with the word discrimination over the top,--and one that says tuning. There is no volume control. There is a momentary contact push button on the handle. I've attached some photos for help. If you know it would be deeply appreciated.

Hi Sysgrade! You need to repost the pictures of the control panel for the pictures that I see are very fuzzy. I haven't seen one of these machines in at least 25 years so I do not want to go on memory! Tuning should be a simple matter but that is assuming that their are no electronic problems and the tuning control could be severly misadjusted. Most of the tuners were either single turn or 10 turn controls. If it is a single turn you should rotate it slowly and should get some response either turning it to the right or to the left. If it is a 10 turn control turn it 10 times in one direction or the other! Then slowly turn it in the reverse direction until you hear the threshold sound. If you completley make all 10 turns with no audio response then it definitely has at least an audio problem! Then you need to find a repairman!!!.........................GOOD LUCK.............Joe

I do know that the two controls that make adjustments are carbon controls and they start from center and go ether right or left.These two are TUNING and GROUND ADJUST. The other two are notched/positioning controls, such as on , off, A B battery check. The other is:DISCRIMINATION- all metal, foil, pull tab, screw cap. I can turn it on then press the button on the shaft then release and the sound emits. At this point I can move a coin to the center of the coil. The volume increases and at this point if I press the button again and remove the coin the sound goes quite until a metal object is passed by the coil again. My question is: There should be a set pattern as to witch controls to adjust and in what order to do it so as to obtain maximum depth detection. I'll sent another pic. sorry the best I have. Hi Sysgrade! Sorry but the picture is still fuzzy! But I'll give it a shot. Do not repush the retune button once the coin is in the center of the coil, basicly you are detuning the detector so that the target is actually seen as smaller to the detector which is good for pin-pointing but do not leave it this way for general coin hunting. So let'start...........Turn the detector on, select which discrimination setting that you want (like foil). At this point ignore the all-metal and ground adjust settings! Holding the searchcoil about 3 or 4 feet in the air (away from any metals), depress the retune button on the handle and keep it depressed while rotating the tuning knob until you hear the threshold sound and then release the retune button! The threshold is the slightest sound that you can comfortable hear! Now find an area of ground that is metals free! Keep the coil in contact with the ground, push and release the retune button again. This is ground tuning the coil to your particular soil. Now you can hunt, continue until you recieve a signal. To pinpoint the target place the coil as close to the side of the object as possible, then push and release the retune button. Now go back over the target, the signal should be sharper and smaller in response. Once the target is recovered , retune the searchcoil to the ground and continue hunting again! I think that you should play with this set-up for a while, once this is mastered, we can discuss how to use the All-metals mode and the ground adjust knob!...........Oh yea, this is a non-motion machine so keep your searching speed to about medium to very slow...........Hope this helps.......................Joe
