  • Detectors From ?

Well I have decided to start a thread on detectors from China and over-seas. Here is a good link to start with. There are a few reasons why I am doing this , I will explain later. The md88 model seems pretty cool , see link below . Thanks- Eugene http://www.metaldetectorltd.com/03.html

Do you know who makes the "Gold Century" models?

Shortly after I visited this site my computer was attacked by extremely malicious hupigon trojan (from Chinese sites).

I am not 100% certain if the site of this link is infected since I had several windows opened looking for further info on those detectors.

Anyway, feel warned. It is always good idea to keep away from thieves (and their sites).

In reply to Carl's question: Gold Century is made by Shanghai 21st Century Electronic Equipment

          Detectors From ?

Here is a brand new model , made in China . sold now though 2 national chains of stores. Looks like a Whites PI-2000 with LEDS . I was wondering if a metal Detector that was discontinued 10 years ago , And it should appear again in quantity and for sale. Do they copy the copyright and re-date it.. Eugene amtech2005 P.S. The photo I posted is from public websites!!

            Detectors From ?

For the cheap price , I still think these are very Good !!! The md-5002/seben and the less common md-5008. Almost identical but the md-5008 has 4 potentiometer controls . And I like the huge search-coil the md-5008 comes with. I read some reviews 1.the depth is good after you learn to pin-point your target !! 2. reports of poor solder joints on the circuit board , as you can see the circuit board does not look too good !
The schematic I posted is not complete but looks professional.......I will definitely buy one if the price is right............Thanks KT315 for posting the md-5002 pcb image and schematic earlier . Any more information on these detectors , let us know ..........Eugene

Coil on that photo is identical with coil came with MD3030 or Griffon!?
I must say that MD3030 was very unstabile on most of the soils i tested it.
When Sense turned to maximum, device was totally unstabile! When Sense turned back to ...let's say 30% than device was pretty stabile but very low depth! Coin hardly at 10cm!
Since i had two MD3030 detectors, logically i wanted to mod them to work more stabile. No way!
I spent hours and hours turning those few trimmers inside, checking signals, measuring almost everything...nothing!
At the end i concluded that all the problems came from very bad coil! (from photo).
Coil design is more than good. Material also very good and hi quality. But...what is inside?
I can swear coils inside are unshielded! I am almost sure!
According to all have been seen that day, i can guarantee there is not any Faraday cage inside the coil housing...or...coils were made totally wrong and not suitable at all for that detector.
I went on few different terrains with different type of soils, to check that MD 3030. Bad..very bad! Man must keep coil 20cm over soil surface to make detektor calm and stabille...sheesh!
              So.....

                And Seben....i founded MD3009a pcb inside!? Ha,ha,ha!
"Deep detector...", like hell! No way!
Totally inert on smaller items...smaller than 5x5cm! Very bad on coins. Very unstabille overall......
One thing must admit; design, enclosures, shafts, coils enclosures - all very well designed and made! Chinesse manufacturers passed only on that.
But inside....pcbs...detector performances....they are still at begining. Very bad detectors. Pitty!
Only one i have seen working pretty descent is Black Knight.Only one.
The rest are cheap toys. Sorry to say that....but it is true.
                Regards!

                  Detectors From ?

Ivconic , Thanks for more information. Sometimes we hope for the best and find out the Worst !!! I was Hoping the md-5002 circuit board had some potential , maybe not. I thought this would be a detector for less than $50 bucks used , then add a few modifications and it would be a "Deep Seeker" . . It is still good to research , and eventually we find the truth . So it is good to find the cheap detector's and see if they can be improoved or modified.............Eugene

But if you can buy those for 30-40e than it would be good job. Why? Simply you can pull out those pcb's and put your handmade inside. Very nice enclosures and very nice shafts. Worth every penny!
I did that with Seben. Removed original pcb (2 pcbs) and put my TGSL handmade. Shaft and coil housing were very nice. So....at the end i got excellent detector packed in very nice package.
Still have those MD 3009a pcbs somewhere in scrapbox...not touched, brand new!

                      Detectors From ?

I did find a photo of the MD3009a . And the search-coil is the same as the MD5008's . And the circuit board I just posted of the md5008 looks terrible. . They are not honest about the detection depths . One add for the md5008 said a u.s. quarter [.25c] @ 32-34 c.m. with discrimination ?? To compete in the World Market today , they are going to have to do much, much better on the Design , PCB Board and the parts quality !!!! I am sure we will hear some more information on the "Detectors made in China"...............Eugene

Yes that's the one! Only on my was "SEBEN blah...blah.." label, not MD3009a.
                        So...did like i said.
Can you imagine my thrill with it when i put excellent TGSL pcb inside and DD coil in its coil housing?
                        Works excellent, looks excellent....ha,ha,ha!!!
And colors on my are different, all green (dark) like on Garrett GTI2500!

I presume Chinnesse manufacturers will reach the quality point some day.
Question is; is it good or bad for us, enthusiasts?
Aint not joy to mod and copy detectors if those are very cheap! Why should i pay efforts on something i can buy for 40-100e? No thrill at all....

To make job easier for somebody with simillar ideas, i am posting here my files upon TGSL adapted for that enclosure. Splitted on two pcb's....
Already made, checked and working very fine!

                          Cheers!

                            Hi,
I think they will reach the goal of perfect cloning if we'll still continue posting details here! No good !

It will be good if some big player will scale down the prices of new stuff... there are incredibly high prices today for brand stuff at top level of MD hobby... but would be really worse if anybody could buy a RH or SD2000 , for example, for 30-40eur.

Would be an invasion of newbies on the budget that will dig everything, everywhere!

No good this way...at least for me. The good thing would be finding an equilibrium between brand prices and mass produced clones... better if mass production will focus on average range detectors...and stay some years back about top MDs... would be good cause people would get good stuff for cheap, but this will not destroy good western manifacturers of top detectors... what a lost will be if ML or White's etc will die about unfair competition!

Western made products cannot compete on the workforce costs...required to assembly an MD in China and the like... but can and must compete by innovative ideas and solutions, keeping the low prices mass producers a step behind always. I would like a top MD could be copied mass produced every 5-6years or more, not less... otherwise who wanna buy one instead of waiting for the underpriced chinese clone ?

I would like also see something original coming from asia... and not just copies... but maybe this will be in the future...

                            Kind regards,
                            Max
