    Hi,
    a bit off-topic

Cut a wire at 1/2 wavelength...then open the cover and solder it to the antenna pattern pcb trace (if any).
    You'll gain some decibel/uv

I've done on older motorola with broken antenna and worked perfectly...until someone asked me why my telephone had such a bare silvery wire like a trashy thing...

    Best regards,
    Max

If your phone works on VHF or UHF band I strongly recommend you to build

      and use a Yagi antenna.

LOL Shahab. Sound advice, but that would look soooooo stupid ROFLMAO.

Put simply...WHY BOTHER?? pleanty of car kits available and those stupid boosters that sit on the back of the phone, nothing more than a con IMHO.

I have worked for Nokia, Qualcomm and Motorola, if these phones COULD be made any better, they would. Get a more modern phone, better components and better sensitivity most prob.

          Hi Sean,
sometimes could be good adjusting something ...I know from my personal experience on that old motorola phone. I was away from home in another country and don't want to buy a newer phone there...I've opened the phone using a small paper knife found in the hotel... I've soldered the silver wire with fire (cigarette lighter) and a metallic paperclip...found the solder wire (very bad one) in a chinese store there but no suitable (thin) soldering iron there!
Anyway, solution worked for me and I get signal that way very easy (and maybe better than with original motorola's crap antenna...that was broken in many parts)
          Seems a McGyver's telefilm but it's a true story.

I don't know why he need that stuff but if a simple bare wire could solve his problem why not. If it's not enough he could buy some car phone amplifier as you suggested.

          Kind regards,
          Max

I worked on SINUS 11 from TELECOM (~900MHz) & used Yagi antenna...

I only tell you : "I SAW A MAGIC RESULT..."

Sweet!! I agree Max and Shahab. Messing around with stuf and making it work better is fun. Most times it's not essential to have a knowledge of the workings just an inquisitive nature and a lot of time . I have the nature, but sadly not the time anymore.

If I'm not wrong a Yagi is directional right?? So of course you will get a front/ back gain increase and thus a better phone call, BUT you would have to know which local "cell" you were logged into and point the antenna in the right direction. Most mobile antennas are omnidirecional with a very low gain, but a high gain Yagi with say 28dB would give stunning results.

BTW Max, I too have soldered with a match!! It is possible, well OK a few matches and a few burnt or hot fingers to boot. Field repairs. NOTHING quite gives you a boost like when you repair the impossible!!
