Red Heat XD 17

I found it to be impressive. I went to a relic shop and we tried all his machines with this test. Not many do well. The Red Heat has no problem giving a strong clear deep signal. world of difference in a whisper, chirp, or a pop with a good signal possibly bleeding thru. I can say from actual experience and testing that not every machine does that well. In fact, only a few do that well.

Which kind of treasure do you think you'll find searching between old oil barrels and scraps of iron?

Or you are interested in searching at unauthorized rubbish dump or at some waste disposal site anyway?

I feel good if my detector disc, have good geb and I find good stuff!
That's all! All the rest (advertise), even if real (and have my dubts it is so... cause never found any detector capable of ignoring "all" iron...
then there are plated iron objects too, alloys ...! ) but unuseful, just have no meaning to me.

HEY GUYS don't misunderstud my words... maybe it's a great detector, probably is, I'm not saying that is a bad one.

Maybe is even better than minelab's , I don't tested/compared, can't say !

My posts of above were just referred to the "see through" idea of metal detecting... that seems to me a fake argument if you don't live in places like e.g. Australia, with huge mineralization.

Of course, having a good geb that could ignore worst soils is ever a good thing...

but when I read that I have to find stuff "seeing through iron" I can just think at fake argumentations.

Actually most people like the Iron See thru concept

I thinks it's excellent terminology. How well does your machine or many machine see thru iron? or any other machine? Great question and concept. Some do well and some don't. Some can't even do it. Most people want to know this before they buy a machine. I am big on whether a machine can do it or not because I luv to hunt plantation sites which are loaded in iron. I need machines in my arsenal that will do real well at seeing thru iron otherwise I will miss some real good relics. I think Vic's terminolgy is excellent.

maybe you're right about terminology. Also if I have to dig e.g. coins in such a place, with lot of iron around, I'll give XD a try before buying other stuff I already know.

Most depends on your needs, on your kind of search, on your searchfields.

For example I've many PIs and want to use them for small gold (and other metals too) searching in really good places... but there are too many ceramics fragments to have a good working of PIs.
They are like hot-rocks... fired oxides inside, very bad things for MD.

Used conventional VLFs and get results but depth is a problem sometimes.

Could be XD a solution also for that ? Avoid ceramics at all ?

I don't know. But if I can I'll give it a try, and if worth I'll buy for sure.

Makes sense too- How well does your machine see thru iron? I have a Red Heat XD-17 in my arsenal and can say for sure it has excellent depth and can see thru iron better then most machines. No speculation or just plain ole internet negativity here, I have seen it for myself. Those of you that have not should see it first before speculating. Here's some recent finds that I dug in the middle of thick iron.



CS Staff officer Button dug 10 inches down, surrounded by nails, and it was almost straight up & down in the ground. The Texas Hat Pin was in a ravine with square nails and wagon parts around it.

i saw that video. Descent detector. Performs much better than most of branded machines on market today. Very good!
But as i saw (might be i am wrong) the max. reach on large coin was 10 inches. TGSL performs better...on coin same size it goes up to 40cm...in the air of course. Anyway this should not spoil overall image on XD17 at all. Again, very, very nice work! Bravo!
I have to say that mostly i liked it's audio! Reminds me on Minelab Musketeer's audio...my favorite!
I am looking forward to have XD17 on test. Is it possible to find it in near shops? Austria,Bulgaria,Germany...
What should be the price there in euros?

Take a number of iron bolts, going from small to large. Your detector will null or dip on the small iron bolts up to a point. As the bolts get larger you eventually come to a bolt that will give a positive signal. There is some sort of crossover point when the iron bolt gives a signal that is undistinguishable from a non ferrous target. This crossover point in dependant on the frequency of your detector. The lower the frequency the larger the iron bolt that will give a dip or null. On a motion detector you don’t actually hear the dip or null but it happens all the same. It is possible to select a bolt that is just about neutral. No positive signal and no dip. This is the magic bolt you select for your iron see through demo. Stick a nice good conductor like a copper, gold, or silver coin next to your bolt and the two will give a positive signal now. But the detector is no seeing through anything it is just reacting to the composite. If you could lay down a sheet of steel 3mm thick with a coin underneath and the detect the coin that would be see through, but it would not happen.
