  • HTML problems?

    I have problem with these pages;
Usually i do save all new pages from this forum, so later
i can read all new posts without watching clock, due my
dial-up connection. Also it is good to have whole forum
saved on computer, sort of archive.
But i have problems, when opened saved pages, some of
posted pictures wont display on screen?
Usually pictures have changed name as:
    "Coil%20to%20pcb%20connection%20details.jpg"
    Original name was:
    "Coil20to20pcb20connection20details.jpg"
It seems that forum engine added symbols "%"...???
    Why? I dont know.
In page "..._files" directory, files exist, also in html source
    proper names are noted...?
Still, iexplorer do not opening and showing pictures, when page
    is opened??? Why?
I tried to overcome the problem. Finally got some method.
First have to rename picture by deleting all "%" symbols from it.
Second, start page and edit source, by changing name - deleting
    symbols "%" from it...
At the end close page and start it again...and now it is showing
full page with all content: pictures,texts,avatars....

    Why is that so?
Any other, easier method to solve this problem?
    Carl, can you help ?

    Hi ivconic,
%20 is the url encoding sequence for a "blank" space... so means that original picture (or whatever) linked has spaces in the name... happens so frequently in windows to store file with long filenames and having space in them.

Solutions is that if you rename as e.g. "Coil to pcb connection details.jpg"
thing would work even locally accesing like file://local-file.html

    Best regards,
    Max

      Hi Ivconic,

When you rename the file, you look in the folder with the same name as the html file -- folder named showthread.php_files. Inside this folder, rename the image files so they are the same as the html file is looking for. Change from name of Picture 12.JPG to Picture%20.JPG. Then it should work.

Another way is to switch to a different browser. Firefox sometimes will save the files different than Internet explorer. I never have a problem with pictures in firefox.

If nothing else works, right-click on the picture and click to "Save As". Then make sure to save it where you can find it. You can always open the pictures with any picture viewer.

      Best wishes,
      J_P

        Hi,
I know another good solution (but maybe is too heavy as loading for the forum engine). Using a web-crawler , so downloading the entire thing on your local hard drive or just sections of it.

But think is too bad idea (and possibly illegal ???) cause someone could download too much things slowing down all operations here.

So I think, you could use crawlers just if really know what you're doing.
E.g. downloading just a thread section or some few.

        Best regards,
        Max
