  • xlt repair need

I have the XLT, but no rod and coil. Just the head.It is used and
    it has a problem.
If I press on/off the light comes on, there is a sound signal, and after 10-15 sec the monitor light is off.By pressing some buttons, there is a sound bip.

My question is if the display is damaged, and shows no data or the unit is not starting without a coil attached?Or has some other damage? How can I check the unit?Any schematics e.t.c.
    Any help I,ll appreciate.
    Many thks.

An XLT will start up fine with no coil. Are you saying the display initially comes on, then turns off and stays off? Easiest thing to do is try a different XLT display, they have a cable that plugs into the main board.

      xlt repair

      Hi, Thks for advice.
The display only lights up for 10-15 sec.If I press arrow buttons than there is a beep sound ( seems that I change something there).
After that time, the unit switch off.
There was a damaged Ici LM2574( changed) and a transistor in the sound output.
The display I can not find where I live, as the XLT has no service facility.
I.m from Macedonia ( South Europa). The land rich with antic things e.t.c.
I,ll try to investigate the unit step by step. The problem is lack of good schematic.
      Thks and rgds.

Here's the manual in case you don't have it.
It appears that 8 volts is where the XLT complains about low charge.

I,ve tried the start up procedure. It seems that the unit starts OK,but I saw that on the pin 3 on the display is only 1 volt ( according with the producer spec it is 12-19V)
              I,m looking further.

I don't recall any XLT schematics floating around. Yes, when you press the up/down buttons the XLT will beep. It sounds like you have a power supply problem... does the whole thing shut down after 15 seconds, or just the display? I would look for a thermal shutdown circuit, something could be overheating.

once again I,ve triedthe start procedure from the manual, like press on/off, than enter everal times and at the end there is that humming sound,as described in the manual.
But, no visible info on the display.
I,ve suceed to find data for the display and also a complete schematic f the White,s Eagle spectrum.Looks that display connections are somehow similar w xlt.
                  Will see.

[COLOR="Blue"]hello unregistred, i have spectrum xlt whit these own problem, is bad function in one chip inside the display panel, your detector can have function if you put the apropiate or original coil, but whitout light in display monitor, the display is not damaged, only one of the chip defectuous, the indications in display is not very neccesary, is possible operation only whit sound, these is automatic function to on the detector
if in your country no exist center repair, send these out, chips of display may be is expensive rectification, in market existence of remplacments of many ,model coils of white apropiate, you consult, white coils pages
                    apologies for bad english

                      xlt

                      Hi,
I realized that the unit works as I ,ve followed the start procedure from the manual.
Aboutthe display I,ve contacted the producer Data International,Taiwan, but they replied today that this is discontinued and they have no spares on stock.
Will try to find a solution for that.

                          hello sasha
other model coil of white detectors, whit some shocket pin cable input, can put detector in function
or send the detector a white center specialit for repair
                          you try

Take out the socketed Micro and clean the legs. Also, check the socket for bent legs and CAREFULLY hook out any legs are pushed in towards the sides.

Clean the socket with Isoprop alcohol to remove any grease/ contaminants. Check the inductor at the back of the PCB for dry joints, broken wires etc, this can cause the fault you describe.

Check the battery connectors, tighten the screws which hold them in place and re-solder over the top of them so make sure. also check they aren't bent away from the battery connections, if they are gently bend them back so they apply a little more pressure to the terminals.

If all this fails, then you need to send the machine back to Whites. And BTW the schematics are somewhere on this forum, and the code for the micro is available on the US patents website

                              Hope the above helps you.
